I'm not sure what I can say about Titus Andronicus that hasn't already been covered in the Titus Andronicus Misery Slog thread but they are one of the acts i'm anticiapting the most and it has everything in the world do with their latest album The Monitor. They sing about NJ quite a bit. The album is full of anthems and sing alongs but none of it comes across as tiresome. Most importantly this band has a lot of stories to tell about life and conflict. They flat out rock and this video is a prime example of what you can expect from the album.

Thao and the Get Down Stay Down are a San Francisco based, 3 piece indie/alt/folk band headed by the very adorable Thao Nguyen, who grew up in Virginia and started playing the guitar in her mother's laundromat.

Their two most recent albums, Know Better Learn Faster (2009) and We Brave Bee Stings and All (2008) are both quite catchy with some fun folky jams. Here are some videos:

    The Joy Formidable

The Joy Formidable are a power trio fronted by the dwarf-like Ritzy Bryan. They were formed in the lovely sounding town of Mold (North Wales) in 2007. Since then they have released the mini album “A Balloon Called Moaning” in Feb 2009 and their full length debut is out on Monday. They have done a lot of touring over the past 4 years so are as tight as fuck and as loud as hell live.

If the OP keeps the index up to date, then what's the harm? Threads with a bit of chatter tend to live longer.

YES! I was thinking the same, Patrick. The description sounds pretty awesome. I am gonna take a listen to their album shortly.

    Glasser.
Just came across her while researching for Friday. She is compared to Bat For Lashes, Bjork, Fever Ray, and Florence and The Machine. Basically singer/songwriter with electronic elements.

    Daedelus

Alfred Darlington is a huge favorite among many of us. He is so humble and kind to his fans and he is such a great time live. His sets incorporate many of his tracks and remixes. He is very fun to watch on the monome. His music can be labeled as bass, experimental, glitch... He throws down live and is a must see if you like to dance. His albums over the years have been released on a number of labels including Alpha Pup, Ninja Tune, Warp, and Brainfeeder. He's played Coachella a couple times over the last few years and it is great that he will be playing in a tent this year. I am quite positive that he will bring an amazing set to the polo field.

edit: he will also be in a spiffy outfit. guaranteed.

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All

    a.k.a. OFWGKTA

Fuck Steve Harvey. Kind of a surprise that these guys got on here, but despite flying under the proverbial radar (although certainly not for long) they seem to have an almost obsessive fan base, a fact that will certainly be illustrated later. OFWGKTA are basically a bawdy bunch of kids from L.A. who have collectively released three hip-hop mixtapes and seven solo albums over the span of about what seemed like two days, but was probably a little more than a year. You can think of them as a collective unit not unlike the Wu-Tang Clan, seeing as that is who they have obviously modeled themselves after (although let it be said, GZA has reported that he is definitely a fan). The group is made up of Tyler the Creator, Hodgy Beats, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Mike G, Frank Ocean, Left Brain, The Super 3, Syd tha Kyd, Jasper Loc, and Taco Bennett. The most notable names, Tyler the Creator and Earl, are siblings, aged 18 and 16 respectively, are the bona-fide leaders of the collective (Tyler surely, Earl perhaps not, but he seems to receive the most hype). The most common theme in the lyrics seems to be rape, including (obviously) the rape-homicide of Justin Bieber. Other crimes are also mentioned, murder and substance abuse to name some, but not as excellently described or as prevalent as rape. I believe I read somewhere that the beats are mostly made by Syd tha Kyd, the lone female in the group, which is kind of unique if true. The beats have a very minimal/macbook feel to them which adds a bit of charm and realism to the whole thing. They recently did a 2 date tour, London and New York City, the London date is notable because it reportedly sold out in 48 hours. Other than that they have only done shows in Los Angeles, so if you live out of state, this might be your only chance to see them... ever.†

    †This is probably not true.

    Nosaj Thing

His music fits into the same LA bass category as Daedelus, Take, Flying Lotus, etc. Debut album Drift was released in 2009 on Alpha Pup. 2 of the 3 times I have seen Nosaj Thing he was a good time - total head nodding beats.

    Cold Cave

Wesley Eisold is the former vocalist of hardcore groups American Nightmare (Give Up the Ghost), Some Girls, and XO Skeletons. Dominick Fernow is a noise artist who goes under the moniker of Pruient. Caralee McElroy was one part of Xiu Xiu (no longer in Cold Cave). Jennifer Clavin was once the frontwoman of defunct LA institution Mika Miko. Cold Cave. The hooks are infectious.

Some guy named Guy Licatta performs sometimes with them too.

Wesley Eisold only has one hand.

    Duran Duran
Though certainly one of the more well-known acts on this year's lineup, they're also maybe one of the most misunderstood. Critics of the band accuse them of following a course of style over substance; of releasing vapid, inconsequential music; of being coke-snorting, puffy shirt-rocking, sport-fucking reprobates; of sucking. And, truth be told, Duran Duran have been guilty of all charges at various times in their long career, as well as understanding that pouting one's lips on the pages of 16 Magazine = Shitloads of cash. But to dismiss them entirely is to cheat one's self of some seriously terrific music from a group that has always been a pretentious art-school post-punk cash-grab project.

The timing is perfect for a Duran Duran appearance at Coachella, as the band's recent recorded work with Mark Ronson taps into the sound of their first two albums, a period which also includes some of their best material on b-sides.

It's likely Duran Duran will hit a few of their career touchstones on the Coachella stage, including "Ordinary World," a song I could certainly live without hearing again. But even the albums they released over the span of their career I didn't actually care for have some really terrific material. Their new album, All You Need is Now )featuring contributions from Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters, Kelis and Owen Pallett), is pretty dynamic and as someone who's seen them more times than I dare recall, I can tell you they're an awfully good live band.

Whether you're new to Duran Duran or are trying to find a reason to get on board when so much of what you know is objectionable to your ears, give the first two albums and their respective b-sides a listen, as well as the new album, which is out now in its original 9-track version on iTunes and will arrive on vinyl and CD with a host of new bonus songs in late March.

You probably already know "Girls on Film," "Planet Earth" and "Hungry Like the Wolf," so I went with some other tracks...

Also, is that true about Tyler and Earl being brothers? That's sick as shit.

    Gayngs

Gayngs are a big collective group, mostly from Minnesota. Founded by Ryan Olson, the group consists of 23 musicians, including Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, Rhymesayers rapper P.O.S, and members of Solid Gold. They have sort of an 80's soft-rock throwback sound, and their live show usually includes awesome covers like this:

Prince is a fan, and has been seen at a couple of their live shows. Here are some of their original songs:

The Drums: Are a 4 member indie/pop band from New York. In 2010, they released one self titled album, and one EP, Summertime. I would describe their sound as energetic surf pop and it's obvious they have been influenced by 80's synth pop/new wave sounds as well.

Scala & Kolacny Brothers will be a treat. It’s a choir of 16-26 year-old Belgian Girls who sing Coachella tracks!

Popular works include covers of Cure, Depeche Mode, Wham, U2, Bjork, Kylie Minogue Muse, Manu Chou, Air, Rammstein, KOL, Radiohead, and Nirvana. The Kolacny brothers play the piano and conduct. There are currently 200 girls listed as members of the choir. Apparently they are the voice behind ‘Creep’ in The Social Network movie trailer.

They are also performing in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, SFO & LA in the weeks surrounding Coachella.

    Wiz Khalifa

From Pittsburgh, PA...skyrocketed to fame with his mixtape Kush & OJ and single Black and Yellow...

I really dislike his early stuff, so i'll start off with IMO the best song off Prince of the City 2...POTC2 dropped in 07...definitely a different sound to him now...

Originally signed to Warner Brothers, his single, Say Yeah, sampling Alice Deejay, managed to garner radio play across the nation...

He broke off ties with WB, going independent and releasing the mixtapes Star Power and Flight School...Flight School is where the "new" Wiz began to take shape...

He continued, dropping the mixtape Burn After Rolling...

    The Thrill (samples EOTS)

He also released a collab album with Curren$y, How Fly. This led to a growth in Wizs songwriting ability, balancing singing and rapping while taking on most of the hooks....

    Car Service w/ Curren$y

His independent album, Deal or No Deal, dropped late 09...

    This Plane

    Who I Am

the "legend" of Wiz Khalifa really starts for most people with the mixtape Kush & OJ...selling out all but 3 shows nationwide, including one thrown by yours truly, Wiz was propelled to stardom with the release of K&OJ...

it wouldn't be right to leave off one of the main reasons everyone knows about the kid...Black and Yellow.

finally, i'll throw in the latest from Wiz, a collab between himself and Snoop Dogg...

    Kode9

The founder of Hyperdub, one of the best dubstep labels out there - home of Burial, Darkstar, and a number of other talented producers. Kode9 has a great ear for that deep minimal style of dubstep and he is one artist on the lineup that I am ecstatic to catch! Much of his production contains bits of dnb, old school jungle, dub reggae, and 2 step. His FACT podcast mix, found here is a great old school jungle set. He frequently teams up with Spaceape (album from 2006 Memories of the Future) and the two have an album coming out early this year entitled Black Sun. He is known to drop exclusive sets containing unreleased Burial tracks - who knows, maybe we'll get a load of funky new shit from him!

here's a fun vid from Sonar

And dropping unreleased Burial cuts - I am not expecting anything like this at Coachella but the tracks are fucking gorgeous.
