Dear Goldenvoice, many of us here are a little jealous that Lollapalooza had Chicago chef Graham Elliot Bowles curate the food options. Can we one-up them on the West Coast, perhaps? How about Rick Bayless? He's got a foothold in L.A. now, and that would be a slight blow to Chicago pride. Thanks.

Coachella has a great food selection and I appreciate their (mostly) exclusive use of CA based restaurant vendors to provide said food.

I found the Ruth Chris booth last year totally ridiculous.

I like the idea Tom, but have mixed feelings. Seems most fair to do this as an assumption based Pro/Con list.

Pro
A single curator would probably up the quality of the lower performing vendors.
A single curator could bring to the festival dishes not traditionally available from a stand.

Con
A single curator would limit variety based from the many points of view of individual stands.
The selected curator may not conceptually understand the product of the vender.
Single curator requires more coordinated training for each vender in order to standardize the dishes.
Individual vendors allows those with exceptional skills and products to reach their highest potential, unencumbered by external oversight.

These are my initial thoughts, but now I'm hungry.

I think Outsidelands has Coachella beat in the food department. Hands down.
Their selection of food and quality was great, but I am pretty sure it had alot to do with SF's foodie culture. If Coachella came close to that then it would be a win, but with more LA influence please!!

That being said, I am almost positive they have their food vendors locked in already so this is all probably moot.

I loved the food options at lolla. Every option besides the obligatory basic hot dogs was excellent. They didn't have any of the crappy street fair stuff that takes up far too much of the main Coachella food court.

That said, I find most of the options between the Outdoor and the Gobi to be strong - I'd like to see the main area bumped up to that level of quality.

The best food was the curry, hands down.
Ive been getting it every day ive spent at coachella since 2008. Its absolutely delicious.

There's a place down the street that's been making these with King's Hawaiian bread. It’s such an improvement from that smart and final styrofoam bread.

Oh yeah, people from so cal would prefer that Rick take his shit restaurant off Melrose.
