Thread: SET TIME PREDICTIONS...coming

I think that's a pretty good place to start for the Friday schedule.

I just think some things will have to be tweaked. Aquabats need to be in the mojave basically. Think Matt & Kim last year. They rely on crowd interactions.

And switch Caifanes and Brandon Flowers.

Why oh why do you people keep insisting on putting The Aquabats at a stage that is not the Mojave or the Gobi. There is no way in hell they are playing the mainstage or outdoor.

Switch The Aquabats and Flogging Molly's spots and it looks a little more realistic.

I think the mojave will go Aquabats->Flogging->Titus on Friday. Just my opinion.

Then add Cut Copy and Crystal Castles to follow that... I wouldn't leave the mojave all day. But when would I have time to see The Black Keys and Chem Bros...

not that i'm an authority on this, but overall, good call on getting acts on the appropriate stages. mine isn't too different from this. there's a couple things I see going down differently. but, in time, that will all be discussed. a lot.

i will say that even though it would be awesome, i think its unlikely that Cut Copy will get the outdoor sunset slot. my money is on Caifanes, Robyn, or Lauryn Hill.

and i wonder if they aren't just going to make the mojave something like:
    Klaxons> YACHT> !!! > Cut Copy > Crystal Castles

I was thinking this too. Perhaps The Aquabats and Titus will go in the Gobi? But at the same time... since when has Coachella organized stages according to genre or similar artists? Aside from the mojave on Sunday in 09, usually they try to split up likes acts and spread them around stages. I could see Klaxons and YACHT in the Gobi, and !!! and Crystal Castles both on the Outdoor. Or perhaps Crystal Castles will be in the Sahara again? Maybe Cut Copy will get a Sahara slot too?

Possible Sahara?: Cut Copy->Boyz Noise->Chem Bros->Crystal Castles (to close)

i'm glad you're on the same page as i am, josh. Sunday in 09 is exactly what I was thinking of. As far as the Sahara goes though, you're forgetting Magnetic Man and Sasha.

Agreed on Titus. I was thinking Aquabats mid-day Mojave? Like King Khan? but they could also be Gobi I suppose. It's just that the costumes alone could draw a crowd, haha.

Mojave almost definitely no? Like you said, they'd draw in people just with their costumes but they also have a pretty big following in the southern California area.

Whoops. I totally did forget about Sasha. Is Magnetic Man that big though? I guess so haha. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if ONE of those bands (Klaxons> YACHT> !!! > Cut Copy > Crystal Castles) will go in the Sahara at some point.

And we really are on the same page haha. I was also thinking Aquabats in the King Khan slot. Probably starting around 2 or 3ish. I would think Flogging Molly following them would be a logical transition, but maybe that is too early for them to be playing. Then again, Flogging closed the outdoor last time they played (against Portishead/Prince), so I am thinking they are basically garaunteed an early day set. Hopefully in the mojave and not the outdoor.

    Sasha 715 - 830
    Erick Morillo 615 - 715
    Crystal Castles 515 - 605
    A-Trak 400 - 500
    Afrojack 300 - 400
    Kyle Hall 215 - 300
    Sander Kleinenberg 100 - 215

Kyle Hall has been confirmed to play on the Pure Filth stage. I don't see why Skrillex and Excision would be anywhere but the Sahara (as unfortunate as that is). I thought about trying to do a mock up for every stage but the Gobi/Mojave are just too tough for me. This is my Friday Sahara prediction:

    100 - 200: Skrillex
    2:00 - 3:00: Excision
    3:00 - 4:00: Sander Kleinenberg
    4:00 - 5:00: Afrojack
    5:00 - 6:00: A-Trak
    6:00 - 7:15: Erick Morillo
    7:15 - 8:30: Magnetic Man
    8:30 - 9:45: Boys Noize
    9:45 - 11:30: Sasha
    11:30: The Chemical Brothers

Please keep in mind that Sander Kleinenberg has been around for a LONG TIME. There is no way he will open the Sahara. I have excluded Crystal Castles because I'm inclined to think that they will not be in the Sahara. Another thing I've thought about is A-Trak perhaps being in the Gobi/Mojave spinning a more hip-hop oriented set. Then maybe Crystal Castles would be in there.

Sander K has indeed been around for a bit. No way he opens the Sahara. I'm looking forward to his set.

And there will be some downtime before the Chems come on. I'd give it at least 15 minutes.

    Saturday Sahara Prediction:

    1:00 - 2:00: Daedelus
    2:15 - 3:00: Fat Freddy's Drop
    3:00 - 4:00: The Twelves
    4:00 - 5:00: Joachim Garraud
    5:00 - 6:00: Chuckie
    6:00 - 7:00: Laidback Luke
    7:00 - 8:00: Fedde Le Grand
    8:00 - 9:15: Shpongle
    9:15 - 10:45: Steve Angello
    10:45: Paul Van Dyk

Notes: I do not think Empire of the Sun will be in the Sahara. I think it is more likely for them to be on the Outdoor or the Mojave. Also, Shpongle has that funky cube-like thing, which is why I placed him later at night, even though his billing is lower than Fedde Le Grand. Because Chuckie/Laidback Luke/Fedde are all very similar artists, I don't see why they wouldn't play directly after eachother (but who knows). Also, Fat Freddy's Drop is dancey enough that I could definitely see them in the Sahara early in the afternoon.

    Sunday Sahara Prediction
    12:00 - 12:45: Joy Orbison
    12:45 - 1:30: Riva Starr
    1:30 - 2:30: Jack Beats
    2:30 - 3:30:Green Velvet
    3:30 - 4:30:Caspa
    4:30 - 5:30:Trentemoller
    5:30 - 6:30uck Sauce
    6:30-7:45:The Presets
    7:45 - 9:00: Leftfield
    9:00 - 10:30:Sven Vath
    10:30: Axwell

This one is admittedly a mess and probably the hardest one to make a good prediction of. I did not include Chromeo or the Bloody Beetroots because I think there is a chance that they may be in a different tent. But the same could be said of a few artists I did include, such as Trentemoller, MAYBE Leftfield? Maybe the Presets won't be in the Sahara again this year. I really have no educated guess. Don't expect Green Velvet/Caspa to be on late at night, it just won't happen.

Daedelus opening the Sahara? That would be HORRIBLE! He needs to play at night in the Mojave/Gobi.
Edit: Also, good job on Sunday, but I think Bloody Beetroots will be in Sahara. Not Chromeo, though.

There are some FFD songs that are pretty dancey, but they're a reggae band for the most part. No way they're in the Sahara.

Yeah, the Sahara might just have longer sets on Saturday.

I just want to reiterate for everyone: over half of the acts you think or want to be at night will not be at night. You need to get over it now. I'm not saying Daedelus won't end up at night somewhere, because that is entirely possible, I'm just saying in general people come in here and argue unnecessarily about set times because they want a certain act to be at night.

Is it pretty standard that returning acts are given a set time/place very different than they had before? You guys mentioned Flogging Molly may be playing early in a tent because they closed the Outdoor last time they played. Would the same rule apply for other returning acts that Yelle or Swell Season?

I think a compelling reason why the Presets might not be in the Sahara is that they played against Paul McCartney last time. I could see Chromeo/Presets/Bloody Beetroots/DFA all being on the outdoor this year.

rolwolf - You almost need to think of it on an act-by-act basis.
For instance, I think Swell Season has probably only declined in popularity since their last performance, so I don't think they're going to get a slot as good as they had last time. I could seem them playing either earlier in the day, or on a smaller stage.

but that has nothing to do with Flogging Molly.

I understand, I just really think Daedelus is gonna go a la FlyLo last year with a late night Gobi set.

Edit: But you know, they put Proxy in the daytime so I should just shut up.

I could see Daedelus in the Gobi happening.
But right now, you'd assume he'd be about mid-day Sahara, which isn't too unlikely. right?

What's weird about the Sahara is that it is especially unpredictable. I mean, last year Sam XL got like a 2 hour set on Saturday in the afternoon. Bizarre.

Haha, paulb was the MOST MAD about Proxy being in the afternoon.

If we are putting him in the Sahara for now, then yes he would be mid-day or early afternoon.
