Just got these in the mail. Smart buy if you like your campsite lit well. Very bright for the price

What do you guys think of this thing?

Was thinking of saving almost $100 and getting it rather than a commercial canopy like this:

I personally think that 10x10 canopies with square legs make the best use of the space you're given and that that canopy would probably fly away when/if the winds hit it. also, I can't tell from the picture if it uses guy lines or not, but I try to avoid those too since they are trip hazards.

Speaking of guy lines, how do you guys anchor down your canopies? Guy lines not only are trip hazards but they extend well beyond the space of a single spot.

Just saw a 10 person coleman instant up tent at goodwill for $129, normally $400 new. Anyone have any experience with them? Worth it?

I use stakes. metal stakes aren't allowed, but they are really the only ones that fit through the holes of the canopy legs. I usually bring both just in case though.

I don't have any experience with them, but I would imagine that they are a pain to fold back up.

I used these last year and they worked perfectly for me. I had brought in some metal stakes too, but I never needed (or used) them.

Last year i brought a whole bunch of 35lb sandbags from work to weight my tent down-I work in lighting so we've got shit tons of them

Don't really want to have to do that this year because they take up so much space in the car. I'll probably just bring stakes. How'd you guys with metal stakes do in the windstorm last year? Sandbags kept me weighted down all night with no problems at all.

This is the idea my genius friend came up with last year. I did a little drawing to illustrate how we set it up between our two camps. We used the cheap EZ Ups from Big 5 with great success. After that dust storm Apocalypse last year, we walked back to camp and our canopies hadn't budged, while most campsites around us were in disarray.

whats the deal with plastic stakes? do they just break really easily? or is it that they just dont hold as well.

if its that they dont hold as well, try driving the stakes at an angle instead of perpendicularly to the ground. that may be an innovation for some or common sense for others.

it helps if you drive the stake towards the object you are trying to steady. i hope that makes sense..

to those with some comprehesion it should.

when it comes to staking down a canopy, the plastic ones are just too wide to fit through the little hole in the "feet" of the canopy legs since they are cross shaped instead of shaped like a nail. They work fine for tents since the hooks are made to attach to the rings on the tent.

big piece of advice when it comes to staking your canopy, guy lines help and so do weights. But this best way to prepare for the wind when you are not around is to lower your canopy (granted it is height adjustable) to the lowest point possible. Came back from the first day at Bonnaroo to find that a thunderstorm had wrecked my two canopys that were attached to one another, i learned this trick after noticing that everyone elses that had weathered the storm, were adjusted to sit low while no one was around.

These plastic stakes work great for us: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    710jaac-flL._SL1500_.jpg

We have never lost our shit at Coachella, but often come back to find other people's canopies crashed into ours. For those with EZ-Up type shades, use the stake's hook through the foot or a guy-line.

Solid 2 person tent. One of those "last tent you will ever buy". Great bargain price too.

Plenty of ventilation, just enough privacy for you and the lady.

    Regular Price: $180
    On Sale: $90

7.5'LX4.5W - Narrow enough to turn sideways and put towards the rear of your 10X10 canopy and still have room for you and the lady; ice chest, chairs, etc. etc. And room with your car too.

Good call on that woot canopy. That's about as cheap as I've seen 10x10 straight leg canopies get. Thanks!!

Also got an ugly yellow CamelBak from campmor.com for 29.97 and 10% off with promo code RMN10

Thanks for the heads up. $49.99 is a great deal on a quality straight leg canopy. Not sold online and pretty much out of stock at most targets but I was able to grab one of the last ones at my local one.

It's that time of year again... REI has One Full Price Item and/or One Rei-Outlet Item: 20% Off + Free Store Pickup.

Use code SAVE20 at checkout. Good time to save on that more expensive camping item you've been eyeing!

Attention Costco shoppers - the summer camping gear is out in force. Lots of tents, coolers, squirt guns, etc.

Also a really kick-ass zero-gravity chair for $60. And a covered hammock for the same price that is so comfortable we are going with a couple of those this year instead of an air mattress.
