Last year, I think that I got my approval from MSO about a week and a half in advance; so I'm trying not to get too anxious about it.

Yeah I heard they gave out a TON at the last minute last year -- in the couple of days beforehand even. I was listening to other photogs talking in the pits, and some of them (especially those who worked for blogs or very small publications) had been given very little notice.
Yeah. Trying to stay optimistic, but arranging all of the travel with this uncertainty is kind of stressful. It would be easier if they weren't so sold out.
If you're approved, they're not going to send you a wristband. You pick it up there. I bought one just in case when they went on sale. You never know if they give you the press pass, but no ticket due to limited availability but most of the time I'm sure they do. Good luck either way and hope your journey is a safe one.
Last year I bought a ticket just to be safe.
Selling it was a nightmare, since I couldn't do it until AFTER I arrived and got my press pass/ticket.
I ended up standing on the side of Monroe in a grassy patch & selling it for face value (minus Ticketmaster fees) to a random person who really wanted to attend the festival.
I'm happy that I made him a happy person, but that isn't possible this year due to the 1 mile "dead zone" around the polo fields. And I can't afford to eat the cost of another ticket, I could barely afford my husband's!
So I am just hoping everything is sorted when I get to will call this year.
Still no word. Anyone have any luck?
We just got our confirmation e-mail from MSO about Coachella press. It says we get another e-mail next week with details. Yay!
I was confirmed, too! I'd almost given up on hearing from them by the time the e-mail arrived this afternoon.
Got the official official e-mail on how to pick up press. Can't wait to write and have our photog to get down with some shots of the fest!
Got my email too!
Where's Underworld and Mew? Make it happen GV.
Soooo, if one was to ask for a press pass where do you go?
I got a ticket (won it) but wanted to bring my dslr and shoot for my publication Sacramento Press.
Anybody?

This year I am bringing at least 20GB worth of compact flash cards...
I've heard tell of a special Camping area for Press - any truth to this?

There's a special area for press in the VIP section, but i have never seen a special camping area.
Just heard that MSO isn't running publicity for 2012 and that Goldenvoice is handling it in-house. So far, that seems to mean an auto response from press@coachella.com saying that they aren't accepting press credential requests.
Jeez, that sounds kind of like a nightmare. As a sometimes professional photographer who attends Coachella on a 100% recreational fan status, I wish you guys luck.
ohh Paul...

How do they handle the mid-range, four-thirds, type of cameras? These are a lot like point and shoots, except they have detachable lenses. Technically the no-detachable-lens policy would exclude them, even though they aren't DSLRs.
My guess is that if it looks like a point and shoot, they'll ignore it, but I'd like to hear if anyone has dealt with that.
Technically it's not allowed.
But yeah, the security guards who are searching your bag are more likely to be security guards than photographers. They are not going to go in and carefully inspect every camera. If it looks like it is allowed, they probably won't give it a second thought.
