Does anyone have an email or contact I can use to talk about press passes? Thanks in advance.
Does anyone have an email or contact I can use to talk about press passes? Thanks in advance.
In previous years, the contact has been press@coachella.com. I would assume that it is remaining the same for this year.
Has anyone heard back about press requests? I've been credentialed before, but haven't gotten a response this year. Just wondering if they're swamped and slowly replying.
Yeah same, no response yet. I asked last year and I couldn't get a photo pass because they "are reserved for photographers on special assignments" which is bullshit since I don't even know how many people I saw with their photo wristbands and point and shoot cameras standing at the front of the stage.
Last year and the year before, one of the prizes for Carpoolchella were photo passes. Some of the people you saw with point and shoots could have been them. One of them could have been me. i use both (P&S and SLR). i have also come across the writer with no photographer who takes their own pics with a P&S.
Do you need to be working for any special company to get a press pass or can any photographer get one? When I e-mailed them last year they said all the spots were taken up for photo press passes.
Also, if any of you have gotten press passes, where do you keep your SLR/Charge it? I know its 90+ degrees and was wondering how you keep your camera from being damaged from the heat.
Even if I don't get a press pass I want to bring my SLR but am worried the heat will fuck it up.
Lots and lots of shade. Same for your spare batteries. Give them a rest wrapped up in something for insulation when not in use.
Also, more often than not*, without a Pass they won't let you take a camera with a detachable lens in as that is considered "professional", ie
* actually now that I think about the past few years, it's more like a 50/50 shot. It just depends on the security person who checks your stuff out as you enter.Originally Posted by FAQ

I know the Dim Mak guys are having a problem getting their stuff, and a lot of people who normally get in w/o a problem are having to jump through hoops and are not getting contacted back, etc.

Yeah last year on the first day the guy seemingly didn't know much english and panicked so the supervisor came over and said I couldn't bring it. I was carrying the body and had the lens wrapped in a shirt in my bag. I went to the end of a different line, put on the lens and got in with an odd look from the lady. This year I wanna use a 50 mm instead of the big 18-105. I dunno yet I am gonna try and Macgyver a way to get all the stuff in.
The chances of McGyvering anything in is going to be difficult this year. I live in the area and the talk about security is already heating up. You need to know that many of the 'security' there last year were guys I knew that volunteered so that they could see the show and get paid. They weren't trained nor official. This year there are NO volunteers...it's all paid trained staff.
Seems dumb to try to sneek a big camera in when once they catch you you'll have to walk all the way back to your car or tent then get in line again...or in the event you do sneek it in and the security inside see's you and forces you out.
use your head...
I haven't received the paperwork yet for press either. I'm not too worried though. The festival isn't till April so there's still time. Also, correct, you need a photo pass to get your SLR in legit. Press people have an area where they can drink cold water, shade and recharge whatever they brought with them to cover the festival. Space is limited though so it helps if you've covered the fest before or affiliated with a known publication. Not many freelance photographers/writers get in with press passes I assume.
Yeah, I remember hearing from them earlier in the year about paperwork, but am hoping that they're just swamped and still playing catch-up.
Still waiting...i'm getting anxious. If I get confirmed I still need to find a place to stay.
Where's Underworld and Mew? Make it happen GV.
I booked hotel rooms in August for $1 at Motel 6. Just as insurance. Housing will be just as hard as tickets. Good luck either way. Maybe crash at a friend's tent?
Friday was the deadline to turn in your press application. I hope you didn't forget!
I got mine on Thursday...![]()
From my publication.
I still remember the first time I met you. I was expecting pink hair.
I got mine today. Or notification, that is. I'll pick them up at willcall.
Well, since I AM a writer & photographer for this publication, it would make sense if they submitted me as a writer/photographer, right?
And yeah, it was just a heads up. Details have yet to be released, but since I did this last year for the same publication I know what to expect.
