garage rock reccomendations?

i was hoping some bands similar to the 2003 garage rock excess.

any recommendations of bands in a similar vein this year? (The Black Keys stood out, and maybe Kings of Leon this year, but help me out on the rest)

Iggy and the Stooges, the mooney suzuki, 22-20's, von blondies, the hives, the white stripes, 22-20's, whirlwind heat, the libertines, ALL PLAYED in 2003.

as far as unfulfilled non-pumpkin related wishes:

How about Dirty Pretty Things or Babyshambles??
How about a return of the stooges or the (record contract free) white stripes?

Arctic Monkeys... Well worth checkin out

forgot about the monkeys, I saw their first show with the new guy in San Diego at SOMA on june 3rd, 2006.
a really solid debut, better than most, but I am wondering how and when the second album will go.
They could barely make it a 58 minute set in June with their debut stuff, and after touring for nearly two straight years with the same material, I am a little bummed that a recycled set would get such high billing at coachella.

From what I have heard, they are pretty low key electronic. I have only heard one album though, so unless they went in a completely different direction, I would say you are pretty far off.

I love The Black Keys. They need more bluesy stuff. I'm thinking Two Gallants and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

...I'm not sure that anyone could make up for that set. I'll tell you...the Outdoor Stage is cursed. Has anyone else picked up on the wide range of technical difficulties that have besieged different bands on that stage over the years??

The primary light array was not working, the band had to switch from electric to acoustic guitars because of electrical problems, and then the acoustics stopped working too and their set was aborted.

I decided to jump on the Jesus and Mary Chain train and push that band as the garage rock set to see in 2007. They sound like Lou Reed leading the Loose-era Stooges. Great stuff, a little of the Vaselines, Pixie-like even. Buzz-sawed version of a much darker Stone Roses. I had never even heard of them until two weeks ago. Viva coachella.

(squint hard and you can almost see BRMC playing the second stage in 2004)

Are we still on the topic of garage rock? Jack and Meg ending their set with Screwdriver in 2003 might be the meanest thing I've seen at the festival over the years.

The Get Behind Me Satan stuff might obscure perceptions a bit...but that first album is as good a garage album as exists.

The Mooney Suzuki? God, haven't heard that name in forever. Used to drive around Fresno, when I was doing field sales there, listening to 'The Broken Heart' off Electric Sweat over and over.
