my wife's grandmother got me a XXL shirt last year. i'm 5'11 and 150 pounds.
yeah. it came to my knees. a plain blue shirt.
and she also got me the same small screwdriver set that she has gotten me for the last three years.
heh, old people...
I already won this. Calligraphied Apache wedding prayer. Stop biting my award.
oh, i got a russian-chinese dictionary from a friend once. i speak neither language.
My sister gave me chapstick once. And that was it. She was 13 and I was 10. We haven't spoken since.
I got a gift from the 99 cent store once, the reason I knew is because they left the price tag on it!
Everybody knows who Hester Prynne is and the sentence in which the namedrop was embedded makes no contextual sense and your second quote is butchered Lennon. It's Christmas. We can't try a little harder? For the children?

Unfortunately, I believe you grossly overestimate the literary knowledge of the average American. I'm pretty sure at least 3-4x more Americans could tell you the title of Sarah Palin's new book than could tell you who Hester Prynne is.
But you didn't acknowledge the nine other ways you're also wrong.
I don't think that math is right. I'm an American; someone's going to have to double-check me.
Additionally: it won't show up as a quote unless you include the slash in the end tag.
FACE.
