What did Janeane Garofalo do to her face? I'm just not sure I like her at all. The only time I think I've seen her and liked it was on Primetime Glick. I love that show. And I feel like I'm in the minority on that. But maybe I just want to feel cool.

I just watched this. God, I love comedy. Most of the time I watch it and I don't even laugh. Cuz it's the silliest stuff that makes me laugh out loud. I watched the John Oliver New York stand up show and he made a joke about how there was a debate in England over whether you could shoot a burglar and there was a misprint in a newspaper and it said "You can shoot buglers!" and it just killed me. He said "This is the stupidest joke you'll hear all night." And I agree, there's not a whole lot there. It's just a quick laugh. Yes, the point of comedy is to make you laugh, but I also get from it what you don't get from many other places which is a critical point of view.

Also, I came home the other night to my boyfriend watching Joe Rogan. I'd never seen any of his standup, but now that I have I am convinced he is one of the most awful people I have ever seen on television and it made me really angry that he can do a whole hour or whatever it was just spewing all the most idiotic things and Tracy Morgan makes one joke and catches all this shit. I love Tracy Morgan. I think he's brilliant. But personal taste shouldn't factor in when it comes to what is inappropriate or not. If you think what's being said is funny, you won't be offended. If you don't, you will. But there needs to be recognition that these people are comedians on stage. If I was at a Joe Rogan show I would probably walk out, but I wouldn't complain to the media.

Jam-packed comedy night at Largo tonight. Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Wil Anderson, Greg Behrendt and Dave Anthony. Patton, Brian and the charming Australian Wil were especially funny. I think Patton was trying out some new material. The whole night had a really relaxed atmosphere of some friends just hanging out and making each other laugh. Great place for this kind of show. My first time at the new (yeah, I know it's been a few years since it moved) Largo.

I've never seen Jon Brion live in any setting whatsoever. I remember reading about his shows at the old Largo when I was a kid but somehow never made it to one. I'll definitely have to remedy that soon.

I bet. I have very fond memories of seeing Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Jude, and Aimee Mann at the old Largo. So intimate and charming. The new place is great, but it doesn't have that same charm.

Although it probably won't help me now, in general, what are some of everyone's favorite stand up albums? I'm more partial to straight stand up than jokey songs, but post both if you so desire.

Bill Hicks- Arizona Bay and Rant In E-Minor.

I've never heard the album for Eddie Izzard's Dress To Kill, but the DVD is probably my favorite stand up performance of all time. I have a few older Izzard albums- Unrepeatable and Definite Article, but neither come close.

David Cross- Shut Up You Fucking Baby!, a 2 CD marathon, is occasionally amazing.

Doug Stanhope- Something To Take The Edge Off

For real old school, it's hard to beat any 60's Bill Cosby album, but Revenge and Wonderfulness are probably the best. Also, the second halves of To Russell, My Brother and 200MPH are great, both long form (20+ minute) stories.

Finally, the first two Bob Newhart albums are brilliant once you get past the fact that he only has one gimmick.
