So my wife got knocked up; which we're totally pumped about. However, the due date is relatively close to Coachella. She gave me the pass to attend by myself, but she says she'll never forgive me if she has the baby while I'm frolicking in the desert.

I figure that this is the only place to get an opinion from those who have both: 1. attended Coachella, and 2. concieved children. My question is, how close is too close.

Just remember that those due dates are educated guesses. I was almost three weeks early.

You only go to the doctor once a week in that last month. One week, everything was on track. The next week, I went to normal doctor's appointment and he told me I was in labor and to go to the hospital immediately; I had a baby three hours later.

I'd like to convince myself that I could leave the festival at a moments notice, grab a cab to LAX, get a non-stop flight home, and be scrubbed up and catching the baby within 8-hours. I'd appreciate it if someone on the board could confirm this.

Definitely not to LAX. That's at least 2 hour drive, then at least another 2 hour flight, plus you have to account for security and whatnot on both sides, and traffic to LA, because there'd be traffic.

You could do it through Palm Springs. It'd be expensive, but it'd work out cheaper in the long run, as long as there were flights going where you needed to go.

maybe try and find a family member/close friend that can stay with her for the weekend. being 8 months pregnant without any help doesn't sound fun, especially if the weather is heating up. at least based on how my wife was at 8 months...

Even if that were true, you'd have to know when your first contraction is. Like I said, I didn't know I was in labor and had a baby three hours later. On the other hand, my best friend's last baby came 36 hours after they induced her.

I mean, dude, if it's really that close to her due date...there's just no lineup that would be worth missing the birth of your first child.

7 weeks is close, but...I dunno. I'd say anything under 6 weeks is too close. From the girl side--those last several weeks are incredibly uncomfortable. You're tired, achy, swollen, and in a general mess. Unless there is someone there to stay with her for the weekend while you're gone (like her mom), I wouldn't chance it.

Also, girls say it's ok to do something, all the while hoping you make a different decision. Bitches, man.

Given that it's 5 weeks, and you live in Houston, I'd say don't do it. Unless you've already had 10 children together and labor is like doing the laundry or taking out the trash or something for your wife. I mean, I know it's Coachella and everything, but it's only a music festival. In the bigger scheme of things, is it REALLY worth missing your child's birth for?

However, I like Steve's suggestion that if you do choose to attend, you should have a very understanding, close friend/family member stay with your wife so at least she's not alone.

Okay, due 5 weeks after Coachella and it's a girl...You do know that girls are late for everything, don't you? LOL
You know, if you really want to make this birth special and also be able to go to Coachella, get each of your tickets, so both of you can go. Granted, she's not gonna be up for lasting the whole day and night, and you may have to sacrifice a band or two, or three. If she goes into labor, they have first aid stations until an ambulance arrives. Try and do this near the main stage for the the ease of entry for the ambulance. The hospital is 3-4 stoplights away, maybe 10 minutes max. I think it would be cool after all these years, and some of the unnecessary losses in the past, to actually have a new life started at Coachella....
