the new Cass McCombs is tragically melancholy, moves at a painfully slow pace, and truthfully exhausting to listen to. quite different from Catacombs. with that said, i keep going back to it. it's reminiscent of Leonard Cohen in parts. i've become strangely addicted to Wit's End.
EMA's Past Life Martyred Saints is also a keeper in my book.
The BATTLES record kicks into another gear for track 5 "Wall Street" and the Gary Numan song. The beginning 4 are nice, but a whole record of it would have really upset me.
Yeah, that Numan track is killer. The rest of it I need to spend more time with. The new sound of the majority of the tracks is taking some getting used to.
Oooooo Kazu Makino is the girl from Blonde Redhead? Her track is sweet too.
Gloss Drop is pretty weak.

I don't feel like reading back on people's thoughts on the new Decemberists album, but I am in love with it right now.
i think the new Battles is pretty great. Some of those tracks are going to be fucking monsters live.

The beginning felt meandering to me. And while I liked Ice Cream before, I don't particularity like it as part of the whole album. The saving grace of the first 6 were Wall Street and the Numan track.
the grouper album is absolutely astounding. she never ceases to amaze me.
As far as I know, Grouper released what will probably be my favorite album of 2011.
Put a boombox playing Sarah McLachlan behind a fan, call it a day.

I definitely echo the Grouper love. I still have my reservations as to her live performance, when she opened for Animal Collective in '09 I found my attention wandering often.
Vapor Trails and She Loves Me That Way are some of the most haunting and beautiful songs I've heard this year, though. Tomboy and now A|A:Alien Observer have really acted as a big defibrillator to this year in music.

Grouper opening for animal collective was a tragedy at the Portland show. The crowd was talking loudly through the whole set and the sound was awful. She's at her best in an intimate venue with good acoustics and a respectful audience. Both her sets at Decibel and On Land last year completely floored me. In the past she's been quite good, but she's definitely stepped it up to a whole new level in the last two or three years.
So this Jamie Woon album has really grown on me and has become one of my favorites of the year. I think what draws me in is how much he reminds of Kelly Polar.

I finally got around to listening to Nicholas Jaar's Space is Only Noise, and holy crap, new #1. I wrote some long post enthusiastic post after a failed search of the thread, but then I went back after making post just to make sure, and I am totally late to party. The new Jamie Woon has also grown on me quite nicely and has turned into a daily listen.
