Yeah I didn't listen to it for a long time because of my hatred of Colin Meloy, but a friend played it for me and I was all about it.

I'm over halfway thru Gloss Drop and it sounds pretty damn good. Not as good as Mirrored at all, but still entertaining.

I'm not necessarily sure I agree. I'll have to listen more, but tracks 1-6, 8 and 12 were the standouts to me. Sundome is the most uncharacteristic eYe vocal I've ever heard, and I love the strange, Frippertronics guitars

The beginning felt meandering to me. And while I liked Ice Cream before, I don't particularity like it as part of the whole album. The saving grace of the first 6 were Wall Street and the Numan track.

As far as I know, Grouper released what will probably be my favorite album of 2011.

Put a boombox playing Sarah McLachlan behind a fan, call it a day.

Finally listening to the new Fleet Foxes. It sounds like them, which means I like it. Some of the newer textures are nice. But yeah, typically beautiful stuff.

I literally just started listening as well. Halfway through, i like it, but it's not as catchy. I sense it'll grow big time though.

I definitely echo the Grouper love. I still have my reservations as to her live performance, when she opened for Animal Collective in '09 I found my attention wandering often.

Vapor Trails and She Loves Me That Way are some of the most haunting and beautiful songs I've heard this year, though. Tomboy and now A|A:Alien Observer have really acted as a big defibrillator to this year in music.

Grouper opening for animal collective was a tragedy at the Portland show. The crowd was talking loudly through the whole set and the sound was awful. She's at her best in an intimate venue with good acoustics and a respectful audience. Both her sets at Decibel and On Land last year completely floored me. In the past she's been quite good, but she's definitely stepped it up to a whole new level in the last two or three years.

So this Jamie Woon album has really grown on me and has become one of my favorites of the year. I think what draws me in is how much he reminds of Kelly Polar.

I finally got around to listening to Nicholas Jaar's Space is Only Noise, and holy crap, new #1. I wrote some long post enthusiastic post after a failed search of the thread, but then I went back after making post just to make sure, and I am totally late to party. The new Jamie Woon has also grown on me quite nicely and has turned into a daily listen.

So it seems like Gang Gang Dance are jumping on the R&B train for at least one song. First listen, I'm not feeling this as much as the last one, but hopefully it'll grow on me.

I had put off listening to the Rene Hell record until the LP arrived, which it did yesterday (in white no less). I just finished my first listen. Album of the year contest is over. When is this guy going on tour?

Gosh fucking damnit. The 21st is the only day in the near future that will absolutely not work for me. Unless I can somehow get out of a cousin coming home from war/brother's birthday/cousin's gf's graduation triple celebration party. But that'd be fucked up.

I agree with Patrick regarding the new Gang Gang Dance as being aimless. That being said, I'm really enjoying the beats and the album as a whole. Eye Contact sounds dramatically different from their previous work. This album gives a more happier/lighter vibe than Saint Dymphna and God's Money.

EDIT* The closing track(Thru and Thru) sounds fantastic live btw.

I just listened to Julianna Barwick's The Magic Place after reading about it on a site that ranked it as the #1 album of 2011 so far. It was complete shit. But I should have known it would be, this same site had favorable things to say about the Braids album as well.

"Princess Ghibli" by Imaginary Flying Machines and assorted guests is a collection of extreme heavy metal cover versions of the theme songs from various Studio Ghibli films. It's a very weird idea and incredibly entertaining.
