I figured once someone listened to a 2011 album they would start the thread... but then I found 3 PMs telling me to start it.... I guess this is my turf?
So that new Wire album huh?

yep, respect.
(haven't listened to the new Wire yet. i aim to on my flight to DC tomorrow)
It's definitely your turf, after all it's become tradition! And yes, the new Wire album. I would guess the next big release that leaks shortly will be the new Decemberists album.

i'd listen to it now... but i'm watching the Chrome event...
This live 2011 charity compilation is a fascinating window into both the seismic and political events of next year.
Is the Wire album grouped yet?
Not sure about the new Isolee... This stuff has never done much for me. The production isn't terrible exciting. The whole microhouse thing just seems kinda silly unless it's absolutely perfect.
The new Go! Team album isn't anything different or terribly exciting, but like their last album, it will probably grow on me over time. It's also much better than a lot of the other music I've heard recently by just the virtue that's its new music from the Go! Team.
.
Has anyone listened to the new Fujiya & Miyagi record yet?
Fresh off his "JUICY AUSTRALIA TOUR"
The King is Dead is a gentler, more country Decemberists. I don't know that they HAD to get the theatricality out with The Hazards of Love, but so far this album's benefited from a tailoring back of those instincts. They write catchy country-inflected indie pop songs here, and there's no theme I can immediately pick out. It's just a good collection of songs, and they haven't done that in awhile.
That's great to hear. Some of my favorite Decemberists songs are their simple ones. It's leaked already?
5/25-5/27: MOVEMENT DETROIT
6/6: The Field @ The Independent
6/26: Colin Stetson @ The Chapel
Just did this morning. There's not a good corollary to their old work in that they're working in a more limited country sound (at least on the 2/3 I've heard) with less of their bombast and story songs. Even Down By The Water, which is propulsive and more of a Decemberists rocker, is steeped in a rustic sound. There's a cool uniformity to this that was present on the last one, but in a bad way, and that I haven't really heard them do well before.
I have a feeling I wont' listen to the album a ton, but it'll be good to revisit on occasion.

has anyone (else) listened to the new Destroyer album (Kaputt) (side project of New Pornographer Dan Bejar)? it's pretty good, although lyrically it's all over the place (and somewhat pretentious in spots). it's got a very nice sound. i'm not sure that i'll listen to it much next year, but i think it will have an audience here on the board.

(man, i was so close to pulling a lmgtfy on you)
the first-glance pretentiousness of Destroyer's lyrics probably comes from the fact that he's constantly self-referential... as a result, if this is your first Destroyer album, it might be a bit opaque.
I really love the new White Lies single. Hopefully a leak of the whole album turns up soon.

There is an album coming out next year....Spring sometime....its called Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 by some band called Beastie Boys
its going to be great.
Upcoming Shows:
Pitchfork Festival: 7/19 @ Union Park
Mountain Oasis Festival: 10/25-27
Coachella: 4/11-13 @ Empire Polo Fields
Telekinesis was forgettable
Checking out The Decemberists... only on the first song, but I feel like parts sound similar to Arcade Fire. I'm having trouble getting through this song, but I'm going to keep listening.
Wake me up when BoC and DCD finally release their new albums next year...
There's so many albums I'm looking forward to for next year it's just ridiculous. Sure this year was great but next year almost every band/artist I like that's still around has an album coming out or at least most likely coming out sometime next year.
The 2010 Albums thread turned me on to so many great bands and artists so I just want to thank everyone and I can't wait to start diving in to 2011 albums.
