I might go just for the hell of it. Last year was a lot of fun. Without mushroom and beer costs, the trip was super cheap.
If worse comes to worse, I'm gonna do that from now on. All my friends told me VIP was so worth it, while I had GA but I paid super cheap for GA ($82 after fees) so I wasn't complaining.

Movement is still the best electronic music festival in the US and the best bang for the buck.

I'd originally thought not but found news stories saying that 3-day GA passes (not single day tickets, and not VIP) had sold out. (Buying single day tickets means no ins and outs)

I could have sworn some 3 day GA passes were available at the gate but then again my memory is a bit hazy from that weekend haha

This is the earliest they've ever released any part of the lineup. Everything's up in the air.

Dunno what you guys want or expect, but the lineup looks good to me. Detroit obviously recycles acts every 2 years..... There are only a handful of made in detroit legends and proper edm labels, its not like the pop edm world where a new megastar pops up every 3 months.

Id like to see some uk bass music in phase 2 and 3. Four tet, daphni, sbtrkt in some form, ben ufo, joy o, pearson sound. Last year had very little of that, so it seems likely unless all those guys are booked to a euro fest on the same date. Burial or boards of canada would be pretty huge.....
"How long will this last, this delicious feeling of being alive, of having penetrated the veil which hides beauty and the wonders of celestial vistas? It doesn't matter, as there can be nothing but gratitude for even a glimpse of what exists for those who can become open to it."

Brian for me it's having a conflict on Saturday that keeps me in Southern California, so I'm trying to see if there's enough on the line up to make it worth traveling for only 2 days of it. There's a lot on Phase 1 that I have seen and will be able to see again that makes it much less tempting to spend a lot of money on Detroit. With there being more festivals worth checking out both in Europe and the US it makes me a little more selective about where to spend the money.

I don't think UK bass sounds that likely. I think Movement has picked a direction that is marketable for them. It just might not be what all of us want to see.

And like Flea said, it's not that the lineup is "bad," necessarily, it's that those of us (like yourself :P ) in big markets have already had the opportunity to see almost all of these acts, some many times, over the past few years. There's much less appeal to traveling across country to see stuff you've already seen in your own hometown.

dj snake, riff raff and flosstradamus seem very out of place. is there always a stage with those kinda acts?

move d, michael mayer, buttrich, voices from the lake should all be fun. got some research to do on some others.

if anyone could point me in the right direction for the following i'd appreciate it:
    dbx
    godfather & zebo
    kevin reynolds
    konkrete jungle detroit
    niko marks
    orphx

There's definitely more on this phase that I'd be excited to see there (Daniel Avery, Function, Robert Hood, VftL, Kode9, Move D, hell even Jamie XX & Julio Bashmore) than on the first phase, and a few names I'm unfamiliar with that would probably end up enjoying upon research. But I've committed to other festivals this year, and still none of these would make me stretch my budget to make it out there. As a whole this phase + phase 1 still makes me wonder what the actual demographic of the festival will be this year. It did seem more crowded last year, and this might be the year that it topples into something huge.

Also I know that As You Like It's going to end up throwing a phenomenal after party, a bunch of my friends are still going, so I'll miss it tremendously the weekend it happens.

thanks for your insight. This is my first time going, but I know a lot of people who have been going for years. To me, its seems that the off parties make a lot of Detroit Movement experience as well as was the case when I went to Sonar.

DBX is Daniel Bell's live act. Look up a song called Baby Judy. he played the fest I think in 07 or 08 as DBX.

Dj Godfather plays ghetto tech. Think 'dirty ass bitches need soap and water, soap and water'. DJ Assault type stuff. It's fun fast paced music. He's from Detroit.

Kevin Reynolds is a Detroiter. Lives in LA now?? Techno of sorts.

Orphx- just found this mix on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAqw2rnOX7w Seems pretty cool.

Question. Will the price of tickets go up as the event nears? I'm looking to grab a VIP pass which is currently 230. I recall last year(even though I didn't go) there being phases of ticket sales in which the prices would go up the longer you waited.

In the past there has been staggered ticket prices as the event nears. The one thing they did last year too was that they allowed payment plans on the VIP and the general admission tickets. I haven't seen that yet.

Konkrete Jungle is a Drum & Bass night in NYC with chapters across the USA. I would assume Konkrete Jungle Detroit would be the local Detroit Drum & Bass guys playing.

How's the sound @ Blue? Thinking of hitting up Juicy J/DVS1 @ the Works instead but if this place is decent, I might hit this up!

DJ Harvey will spin at RA's official Movement opening party in Detroit on Friday, May 23rd.

This is the first time we've hosted an official opening bash at the Michigan festival.
For the occasion we'll descend on Woodward Avenue venue Bleu, and there's just one name on the bill: DJ Harvey. The charismatic selector will be playing all night, giving him a chance to explore the outer reaches of his record collection. The party, which is 18-plus, kicks off at 9 PM.

The lineup for Movement 2014 features a wealth of dance music talent, from Dixon to Richie Hawtin to Carl Cox. The festival will run over Memorial Day Weekend (May 24th through 26th).

Tickets to RA's official Movement opening party are available here on RA.
