I remember running into a lot of europeans at after parties, not any really at the fest. It could be that I was just more... chatty... at the parties.

Broadcasting again this weekend I assume?
This weekend was completely ridiculously awesome.

I am so glad I made the last minute decision to go to this on Saturday. What a great weekend. Completely makes up for the piss poor dance lineup at Coachella this year. Great vibe, great music, UNREAL after parties.
Carl Craig, Damien Lazarus, Maceo Plex, Sneak, Dopplereffekt on the Underground Stage (fucking dungeon of doom!!!)Tenaglia on a boat for a 6+ hour set, and complete debauchery at the Circo Loco party on Saturday until the cops came to shut it down.
Public Enemy saying "This ain't no mutha fucking hologram!!!" was pretty funny if you ask me.
Please check out my blog Sleeping is Giving In for some great mixes and other good things!
Perfect DEMF. Even the wrong choices were right choices. Less than 12 hours sleep from Friday morning to Monday night. Too much amazing music to even list off highlights. Weird times. Old Miami. Slows. The best damned rave crew in the motherfucking world. Undoubtedly my favorite weekend of the year once again.
The only wrong choice was to miss it.

Joris Voorn b2b with Nic Fanciulli was the sexiest 2 hours of tech house I've heard in a long time.
Patrick, are you going to give this a proper write up?
Deservedly so, glad you were able to make it up there.

I'm feeling pretty good other than being a bit tired and hoarse. I feel like I went a lot harder this year yet managed better and came out of the weekend not feeling cracked out. This was a perfect festival for me in so many ways. "Even the wrong choices were right choices," Patrick, that is spot on.
Let's see..
Friday was a family day for me, but I had a great time hanging out with everyone at the hotel once I got back downtown. More fun than I would have had at Life & Death I think.
Saturday... we saw (a small part of) Actress, Greg Wilson, Todd Terje, Photek, Derrick Carter, and SBTRKT. We'd planned to see Roni Size but left because we were hammered. I do wish my sibs and I hadn't gotten so blasted because I'm really fuzzy on most of Saturday other than Greg Wilson and Todd Terje.
On Sunday, Patrick, Adam, and I were at Shit Show before the doors opened and caught 5+ hours of great music. Daniel Bell into/overlapping with DVS1, into Public Lover... I'd never heard Till von Sein but really enjoyed his set. Kollektiv Turmstrasse was the perfect way to end the party before hanging out at the hotel for a few hours. Had a great day at the festival with some downtime early in the day to share some unforgettable moments with friends. Tiger & Woods, Dopplereffekt, Ian Pooley, Mathew Jonson were the sets I focused on, though I browsed more. KMS 25 Sunday night was everything I hoped it would be. Dark, sweaty, a little undercrowded. So many weird/wonderful moments in that place. Ben Sims, 69 (Carl Craig), Inner City, Kevin Saunderson & Derrick May... plus a few minutes of Terrence Parker and Mike Huckaby.
I'm so glad a few of you trusted Patrick and me and headed to Old Miami first thing on Monday morning. I will never forget seeing Ryan's face as he walked in and handed his $10 admission to the dapper gentleman working the door (Seth Troxler). Sitting in the lawn in the shade listening to old soul records having bloody marys, sangria, and Ghettoblasters over breakfast with my friends was the absolute perfect way to wind down that crazy 35 hour marathon. It would have been nice to see more acts there (I only caught Footprintz) but,...
Monday was a little more mellow for me. Took a long nap to refresh and then headed into the fest for Radio Slave and Chris Liebing. I spent a few hours at the Made in Detroit stage, alternating between dancing my ass off to Plaslaiko and Pullen, and chilling out under the Stargate watching people breakdance. I know there were other great acts on, but for my last night in Detroit, there was no place I'd rather be. From there, I caught a little of Saunderson's set (good, but I HAD to go back to Stacey Pullen) and all of Jeff Mills. While there were some problems with Mills's set, I loved the track selection and watching/dancing from the top of the ampitheater and seeing how hard the crowd was dancing the whole set was just.. amazing.
Tuesday was fucking perfect too, Slow's and Old Miami again and a few last hours with friends. I wound up getting stuck in Detroit another night due to our flights getting delayed so many times, but I finally got home last night at around 11, and I already wish I could go back.
I met a ton of really cool people, was blessed to be able to spend so much time with friends. I can't believe that not only did my family come back to the fest again this year, but they are buying presale weeekend tickets when they go on sale for 2013.There were a lot of after party tickets that went unused but I'm SO happy with the ones I focused on. (The only ones I'd really wanted to try - Circo Loco, Rare Form - I heard had pretty serious issues). Sunday was one of the most perfect days of music I've ever had.
I am really, really elated by the way this thing keeps growing in my circle of friends. In 2003, a bunch of my SF "raver" type friends went to Detroit on Memorial Day weekend for an electronic music festival. I couldn't quite understand why they'd want to take a vacation in Detroit. After meeting Patrick and Matt and hearing about their experience in 2010, a few of us decided to take the plunge. This year, there were about 100 of us, I think. I can't wait to see how many make the trip in 2013.![]()
I'm upset that I'm not laying on the grass at Old Miami with Ghetto Blasters being poured into my mouth right now. But I'll deal with it.

Ghettoblasters, I thought, fit the vibe of the party perfectly.
Highlights for me...
Getting kicked out of shitshow
Sailor moon glowstick twirl
Forza wearing a sweatshirt to kms and almost passing out
And of course the dj xanex disco funkathon every night on floor 7 of the doubletree.
Seriously though, wall to wall 10/10 sets and the cheapest 3 day traveling festival adventure ive ever had. There is no way i am not going back next year.

Best set: Joris Voorn b2b Nic Fanciuli
Most disappointing set: Maceo Plex
Highlight of the weekend: My meltdown at Old Miami
I cant even really pick a best set, there were so many... Also if something was mediocre 3 other stages or parties were minutes away.

I concur. The only reason maceo plex gets worst set was because I had built it up too much.
