Excellent and helpful posts Playa and Ivy. I plan on getting the South Beach book this week. I'll be reading more online as well.

RE: Black Beans
I have a book from these guys called "Three Guys From Miami Cook Cuban" that has some good soups and sides. The rest of the book quite tasty.
And I just picked this one up, but haven't made anything yet. Black Beans in there too.
Oh, almost forgot about, the IN-N-OUT Protein Burger. Instead of fries, pick up two single Protein Burgers for real cheap.

Yeah, I have to give the zero's a shot again. I'm conditioned to go to regular diet sodas but these options are better and as you say far from being a "health drink".
I assume it's similar to clearly canadian or any of the other flavoried sparkled or seltzer type waters? I tend to pick up bottles of those at Walmart but it's been a while.[*]Albertson's used to have this great flavored sparkling water that comes in a dozen flavors called Clear Excellence, but replaced it with a new generic brand I can't remember the name of
I tend to drink coffee a couple of days a week and it's usually one cup. I use 2 teaspoons of powdered french vanilla sweetner.[*]Coffee
I have splenda as well but do they make a good flavored artificial or sucralose sweetner for coffee?
the fact that the LA marathon takes place roughly one month before coachella is nice because I know I will be fit-chella come party time. Having a goal seems to provide more motivation and something to work towards.
the first couple years I ran it, it was scheduled in mid-May. Not a good idea, downtown LA can be hot and muggy that time of year.
last year they changed the course, and I absolutely love it. The course starts at Dodger Stadium and ends at the Santa Monica pier.
I try to run 2 marathons a year and shave off a few minutes each time. even running a half-marathon (or 10k, but thats usually what I'll run in in a day) a couple times a year will provide you with something to keep you motivated and get your ass movin instead of just being complacent/lazy.
Whenever I blaze, I feel like sexercising.
That's tight, huh? I'm badass like that.
I just want to lose a bit of my beer belly. Does anyone have any good At-home-broke-as-fuck-not-buying-anything workouts? I just started doing sit ups and push ups. I've already lost 10 pounds in the past 2 months thanks to my brokeorexia diet and walking a minimum of 2 miles everyday (Seems similar to Daxton's NYC diet)

i hula-hoop, but if you don't have one i guess that wouldn't count. i would search youtube for yoga instructional videos or some sort of cardio workout video. i'm sure you can find something. i've found instructional hula-hoop videos that were extremely beneficial. jump roping? i used to be a competitive jump roper, but i live on the third floor of an apartment so it's not really feasible for me.
The first thing that comes to discsobotica's mind whilst entertaining sexercise is fapping.
Crushing.
To add to Playa's list, one thing I like is Arizona Diet Green Tea with Ginseng. Zero calories, zero sugar, and I like the taste. It can be kind of pricey -- they have a sale on the 1 gallon containers at Fry's this week, 2 for $5; they're normally $3 apiece (I don't know why that 50 cent difference seems so mammoth to me) -- but it's got vastly less sodium than diet soda. (I admit to still succumbing to the desire for diet Pepsi during the day at work when I have an extra buck-twenty in my pocket, but I drink a lot less of it than I otherwise could.)
Cool.
My chest is hurting today from yesterday's push-up routine, as are my abs from doing an oblique exercise. Good.
Haaa I've actually tried this, but of course like any other fad diet, the weight all came back. I just thought it was insane how you can go a week without no food and physically not be hungry.
But... I'm on board for the Fitchella 2011. The healthy way! Goal: 25 lbs.
Ok, I slacked today, but I am making a public commitment to go to the gym tomorrow morning before work. If I don't go, you all have permission to chastise me.
Good call on the AZ Diet Green Tea. I haven't had that in a long time and it's a nice different flavor and a good change from diet pop.
I'm on day 4 of switching up my eating habbits and the differences as usual are dramatic. My back pain appears to be gone (it was getting so bad that I would start to feel it after walking a half a block and I would literally have to sit down from the stress of the weight after a block). I should really see a doctor about that considering the back pain doesn't go away because i've lost a bunch of weight (it's only been a few days) but because I cut carbs big time from the diet, so i'm concluding the back issues are related to food/carbs. I'm sleeping throughout the night instead of waking up every 2 hours. I can breath easier and i'm not winded after walking. I really notice this stuff when i'm in Vegas which is a few times a year. I feel pathetic. This last visit we stayed at Luxor and would regularly walk to MGM. That meant walking from Luxor to Excaliber and sitting down for 2 minutes. Then walking from Excaliber to NY NY and sitting down. The stress on my back was becoming intolerable not to mention the embarassment, humiliation, etc. etc. The trip to Vegas coupled with getting on the scale Friday and being uncomfortable most of the day finally got me to start doing things different.
I'm not even close to out of the woods yet though. Over the past five years i've had success for a few months at most and then quit probably a half a dozen times or more. Sheer laziness and lack of determination and will power ultimatley caused me to give up. I went from 285 to 250 or so in 2008 just before going to Europe and I think I lost another 6-8 lbs in Europe from Walking everywhere for miles and miles every single day, we would only use public transportation if it was more than a few miles away or the weather was bad. It makes so much sense to eat this way and exercise because of how great I feel but for some reason I put myself through this over and over again. It really sucks when I go to the park with Connor to play football or basketball and I can't get through and hour of just playing with the kid. I have so many motivations. I hope I can prove myself wrong and succeed again like I did back in 03' when I lost 90lbs.
The obvious motivation is health, but momentum and showing off are two more resaonable motivations. Once I got in the cycle, I was so excited to weigh myself every night and every morning. Day vs. Day and Week vs. Week, it's a great feeling to see how far you can keep dropping. And the more friends and family and boardies you are open with, the more who notice your results. April 2010 is a great target to show up and have people saying damn faxy, you look good.
i was pretty good yesterday and made some really yummy fresh green beans. i cut up the beans, cut up some garlic, boiled a mix of chicken broth & french onion soup and let the beans simmer for about twenty minutes. i also made some garlic & lime pork chops with a bit of red wine in the marinade. i cannot help but marinate everything in alcohol for some reason. it was a fabulous dinner & my boyfriend ate every bite.
Ivy, good for you. )
I epic failed yesterday and skipped yoga and spent the night cutting out paper robots and looking at old view master reels instead. I also drank about 4 hard ciders. I've been so busy lately, I just did not feel like doing anything productive. Which is the problem I always get in to. Also, drinking too much! I really, really, need to just say no to the devil's elixir.
Yoga, tonight! No excuses!
My problems with motivation this week are entirely weather-related. I just got back from my run: 31 degrees, with a windchill of 24. The combination of cold and wind does not jive well with my wimpy asthmatic lungs, so it's hard to get excited about bundling up and dragging my ass around the track for an hour.
That stuff had me running laps for days.
I need to get over this sickness. Running a few miles with a fever is probably a bad idea...

It gives you a boost but you have to drink a shit ton of water for it to work. If you're going to start lifting weights buy a creatine/glutamine powder. The glutamine will give your muscles a faster recovery time.
Edit: I would just buy glutamine, your muscles will recover faster so you wont be as sore.
