if you don't mind my two cents, avoid Tres Agaves unless you like crowded corporate scenes with overpriced, pedestrian fare (food and drink). Bloodhound is pretty great. Really good choice of liquor/beer (great bourbon choices), a pool table and decent jukebox. 21st Amendment would normally be a viable option, but it's likely going to be really hard to find a spot unless you end up eating there.

Yea we're having a side discussion about that. I am certain that 21st will not have bar space and will not allow people to sit at tables unless they order entrees. Plus any place like that is normally fine, but on 'event' nights (whether NYE, Giants game nights, etc), both places tend to become filled with really douchey yuppie types.

I think we're leaning towards Bloodhound.

Will you be joining us for a pre-game drink, Drew?

I'm down with The Bloodhound, it looks cool and it seems to be in the middle of where everybody's going that evening.

No idea. But you also probably just got the email that an-ten-nae is doing something at 103 Harriet later that night. No lineup to be announced until Saturday though. I might end up doing something Saturday night if I'm not in any shape to go out during the day.

Antennae's doing a "reset" show on 1/1 at 103 harriet, the lineup is still secret but he's saying it's well worth it and that it'll be announced today sometime.

The Mark Farina party last night was just okay...good thing we didn't spend a lot of moolah on the tix. We did run into Vasolene Groove and his wife, so that was cool.

It was good to see you and your lady, also, Eric.

I agree about the Factory, it was just ok. The set up was strange, the crowd was a little weird, and the music was decent but not amazing. I actually liked Julius Papp in the other room better since he played some old school jams.

I think that since that place isn't a full time club, there was no identity or vibe with the crowd.

    The sound was good though.

Dos Equis as the only beer options was slightly disappointing, but it could have been worse, it could have been Corona only.

And Thanks again Sublime for posting the half off tickets to the show. If I had paid, $50, or $100 - which is what they were charging at the door, I would have been pissed.

I truly do hope that Sea of Dreams has a line up you guys find more interesting next year -- I know some of you wouldn't have enjoyed the music at SoD, but the setup and crowd make it great.

I can't believe it was that bad and I didn't notice. I seem to have missed a lot that night though. The sound wasn't terrible the year before.... the music just wasn't good.

I'm with you 100%, Heidi. I honestly don't remember any sound troubles. I kinda remember modeselektor, um sorta.

I remember thinking modeselektor had stopped playing, like the sound went out or was warbly or something. But honestly with everyone showing up all of a sudden, I was having trouble concentrating on what was going on.

Yes exactly! Chatting it up with darkjustice, smoking that joint, talking to and hugging random guys that would walk past me, oh yeah and finding Mark! Modeselektor was fucking eventful

Dresden Dolls on NYE was really incredible!
Right before midnight they stopped to do the countdown. Where they did a balloon drop. FUCKING TONS OF BALLOONS, which tons of people started popping during/after Auld Lang Syne.

Then, they covered U2's "New Year's Day" with so much confetti, which was one of my favorite parts. It was magical. Way better than my east coast tradition of watching the ball drop live.

After that. They had Pomplamoose come out and Jason Webley and random people with bottles of booze and they covered Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right".

Another really fantastic cover was a obscure song "I Am The Condor" by Double Dong (which is really quite horrible... here is the original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNFJ1ODQUGo). It was pretty erotic.

The OT sound really was pretty bad, but it's a lobby and what can ya do. You won't see a scene like that in most clubs.

And to be fair to SoD, Modeselektor is notorious for sound issues. They have one of the most complicated setups in the business (perhaps less so than say, Coldcut, but probably far less professional too).

I've heard them cut out at three different shows, it's getting harder to believe that it's always the venue.

Right, I was not expecting great sound at the Opulent Temple based on what/where it was. (I thought it was better than last year, but then I didn't spend much time in that area last year - was the Do Lab, right?) But I was being genuine in asking whether everything across the venue had poor sound or if it was a specific stage. I didn't really see anything at the stage on the end (east?) and I wasn't at west long enough / paying enough attention to get a good feel for it.

Edited to be clear: I'm not challenging anyone on this, I am just interested in your opinions. I was completely out of it, and also have slight hearing problems so when I don't have a pristine environment for listening, some sound problems can be lost on me. I guess I'm wondering how bad it could have been that I didn't notice it. I don't think I was that fucked up.
