I loved Fascist Groove Thing back then.
Dos Dedos Mis Amigos has always been my favorite Pop Will Eat itself album, but This Is The Day... has really good stuff too. Def Cone One" is the fucking jam.
"Ich Bin Ein Auslander " from Don Dedos is what made me interested in them initially. Irt's been a while since I've listened to this - it's definitely very silly, but when i was in high school I loved this shit. It fit right in with Pigface and Revolting Cocks and the other over the top industrial stuff I was listening to at the time.

Can anyone recommend a Joy Division album?
A friend of mine is really really into them and I want to give them a listen.
They only have 2 full length albums, both of which are essential for anyone. Look for remasters which also have live shows as bonus discs. later you can get into b-sides and their BBC live recordings, all of which are great.

Over Substance i would actually recommend the 2010 release Singles 1978-80. There's more content and the new remasters sound fucking great. There are some really nice high quality vinyl rips of it out there too.

R. Stevie Moore
I really like this 7" i have of him and Ariel Pink did.
Arto Lindsay.
Stereogum describing Daydream Nation:
As indebted to Amon Duul as Arto Lindsay, the album's beauty sounds effortless, as if the band's myriad public obsessions all converged and produced the album by divination.

Unwound.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
That's a tough one. For the most representative album of their style for the majority of their career, I'd go with Repetition. It's my favorite of their loud, harsh noise-rocky stuff. However, if you want their best one, it's their last album Leaves Turn Inside You. That one is its own beast, with a considerably larger, denser and more melodic sound. It'd probably be best to hear Repetition first to get an understanding for who they were before hearing Leaves.
I put Leaves in my top 20 favorite albums of all time. It's spectacular.
Thanks, I've been getting into more louder, noiser rock bands lately.

I thought they were fantastic when I saw them at Sasquatch in 2010 but wasn't as impressed at FYF last year. Dude's got serious guitar chops though. You should go.

Other film scores from Clint Mansell? He's pretty great.

The Kronos Quartet, who play on much of Mansell's OSTs, have a huge body of work (including an album of Sigur Ros covers). Recently, i really love the album Uniko, composed by Samuli Kosminen and Kimmo Pohjonen (who also does some of the most incredible things I have ever heard on accordion on this album).
