Well. The first song on that album is quite possibly her best song. She kind of is dated, but I don't see it as a bad thing. She really makes that big lush 80s sound her own. You'll probably laugh at "Wuthering Heights" the first time you hear it and assume the world is playing a big joke on you for praising this sentimental schmaltz so fucking much. But then maybe you'll also realize how offbeat and deranged it all is. Kate Bush is an unabashed romantic and her music can be a bit much to take if you are resistant to big over the top emotions. It also helps to actually watch the videos to her hits, where you can experience the full breadth of her bizarre art school take on the weepie ballad. Just remember, even TomAz likes this stuff.

I'm still not super familiar with Kate Bush myself, but "Running Up That Hill" is such a fucking amazing song that i can't even fathom that being the trigger to turn a record off.

Stiff Little Fingers.

I downloaded this gigantic torrent which contains John Peel's "Festive Fifty" from each year of the 1980s, and all of their songs which have played so far are fantastic.

I've only listened to the debut, Inflammable Materials, thoroughly, and I love it. I'd like to hear some more recs past that one, but I would imagine it's a good place to start.

Al Green : I'm Still in Love With You is one of my absolute favorite records ever. That will get you started on deeper cuts from Al.

Their first two albums are both fantastic, but I prefer their second album In the Future. Primarily because of these two songs, which I had to have listened to a couple hundred times each a few years ago:





Their third album, however, is complete bullshit and should be avoided at all costs.

Their debut B.R.M.C. is a great place to start with fantastic songs such as "White Palms" and "Spread Your Love." The later Baby 81 has more breadth; highlights include "666 Conducer" and the lovely "All You Do Is Talk."

If they kept on with the acoustic/rootsy feel after I would have gone that way too; it is a great album. I'd say I like 'em all but I just realized/was reminded that I missed their most recent. I just heard Beat the Devil's Tattoo for the first time last night.

Inflammable Material is their punk rock classic, and it has "Suspect Device" and "Alternative Ulster" on it, and a lengthy but kind of cool cover of Bob Marley's "Johnny Was", so it's a good choice. Nobody's Heroes, however, might be deeper and better-written top to bottom.

Thunder Perfect Mind and Black Ships Ate The Sky... to give a good balance between older and newer. Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain is very solid as well (the most recent full length).
