I started with Tri Repetae. I kept listening to them, so I suppose it was a good intro.

That's my choice. It's right before they went really fucking abstract so it's pretty important and challenging and charting new territory, but there's still that accessibility and warmth of their early stuff.

YES that album is pretty amazing.

Sort of but not really related, does anyone have a rec for Wagonchrist? I've been interested in Vibert for years, but haven't ever committed to actually listening to an entire album my him.

Tally Ho! is the one I'm really familiar with. Not a bad place to start.

Wow, Tally ho! is great! Thanks!

For some reason i was expected something much weirder and more aggressive, but this is really chilled out for the most part. Makes great background music for mindless work.

Seems like we all agree then. I was listening to Tri Repetae this morning and marvelling at how fantastic it is, and I was wondering if there was another route people took to get into them or a more accessible/wonderful album, because none of their discography was as great as that one to me.

    Game Theory and/or Scott Miller.

I just read a bit of an article about Miller and he sounds right up my alley.

My introduction to Game Theory was Big Shot Chronicles, which I think is a great album.

Emphatically, yes. There's also a pretty good retrospective out there Tinker to Evers to Chance that provides a nice overview.

We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

So I think I might have finally wrapped my head around Joy Division. I listened to Unknown Pleasures front to back for the first time this afternoon and really liked it. They've always been a tough band to get into for me, everything they did just sounds so dated.

Maybe Scott 4? My introductions were Tilt and The Drift, which are both pretty extreme/difficult albums. They are also immensely beautiful and rewarding. His numbered records from the 60s are much more accessible and still really great. It really depends if you want to go straight off the deep end or if you want to dip your toes in first.

I want the more accessible stuff. I listened to the first few songs on The Drift and was lost.

Chris is incorrect, but he's a lovable curmudgeon so we keep him around

Atmosphere: Either the Lucy Ford LP if you want his best work or Seven's Travels if you're more of an album person.

Flogging Molly: Swagger, their first, is their best. Everything else works off the template they created on that one, but Drunken Lullabies is still worth listening to, even if everything else they've put out hasn't really been up to snuff.

She Wants Revenge: just don't bother. If you want to hear good music in this vein, pick up Joy Division's singles collection, Substance. It's much better than SWR but in a similar vein and recorded years prior.
