I wasn't sure if Jacques Brel would fall into that category, but his catalog is great. His Integrale box set is fantastic. There was actually a series of box sets with that title cataloging the most famous French artists. There's a great Integrale for France Gall as well.
So im heading to punk rock bowling soon, and even though I have listened to damaged a bunch I still have not jumoped into the Black Flag catalogue. Was wondering if anyone has suggestions of what they think FLAG will play and what albums I should dive into a bit more?
you are soooooooo good lookin
They've played a few shows so far, and it's pretty much all been either from Damaged and a compilation of the early EPs/Singles called The First Four Years. They've done one or two songs from My War (the ones that Dukowski wrote.) I'd recommend just listening to The First Four Years: you'll cover 95% of the set.
And if you want to listen further just to listen to good music, check out My War and Loose Nut, two of the three best later albums.
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
They're coming to town and I want to know if they're any good.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
Thank you, both of you.
I found a very interesting link regarding disco that i posted in the group.
6/15/14 Failure - Glasshouse // 7/9/14 Cloud Nothings/Metz - Roxy
7/16/14 Planes Mistaken For Stars - Echo // 8/23-24/14 FYF Fest - Expo Park //8/25/14 Nine Inch Nails - Hollywood Bowl // 9/12-14/14 Riotfest - Humboldt Park, Chicago, IL
9/18/14 Neutral Milk Hotel - Hollywood Bowl
Dig into "The Sound of Philadelphia" or TSOP. Thaaaat's my shit. Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Paul, Stylistics, Delfonics, Manhattans. Not all disco, but all fucking good.
Yeah, I used to have that on my hard drive...let me see if I still do. Regardless, download that.
Tom Moulton's edits are incredible too
There's a fat comp out there called Philadelphia International Classics The Tom Moulton Remixes that kicks ass. awesome tunes
The Modern Lovers
(not their debut. basically, what can we expect from Jonathan Richman at FYF?)
I had this as one my picks for that Music Board member thing
I, Jonathan, it's a great summer album as well
Pavement(just out of curiously of everyone else on the board .)

You really cannot go wrong with any of his albums though. They all are full of little gems. Also would recommend Having A Party With Jonathan Richman and Surrender To Jonathan. So many good songs on so many good albums from him!
Maybe a little late, but stoked I got to reply to bmack in this thread!
