At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
For Phish, kinda depends. They only have one studio album I enjoy, The Siket Disc, which is a weirder, almost ambient album. The real thing to listen to with them is a live recording. They have a series of official live releases, of which Phish 4 is probably the most entertaining. Phish 15 has their Halloween take on Remain in Light though, and the rest of the show is really good as well.

Nice. I noticed that they're playing this tiny, tiny venue near my place... heard their name mentioned on the boards so I figured I'd check them out.

Peter Gabriel's best album is 3, his most accessible is So. If you listen to those two and don't find anything to enjoy, just stop. If you want more, I'd recommend Us, Genesis' Foxtrot and 1 as the next stops. He has a great catalog.
The Thermals' best album, as noted before, is The Body The Blood The Machine. That said, the first three are all incredible and the last two have been really good. You won't go wrong with any of them.
I'll second the recommendation for 3. It's the only one of his I have been able to really get behind so far. It's pretty much 80's prog-pop. I have really mixed feelings about it in some ways. There's some really cheesy moments, the production is almost too huge in that 80's way that most of his stuff is (although this can work too; most of the percussion on this album hits so hard), and his voice can get to me some times. But, that being, said, I fucking love most of the album. It's very much indebted to Berlin era Bowie style art rock. Gabriel's "world music" influences shine through a lot too, especially on the last two tracks. "Intruder" is one of the most appealingly creepy pop songs ever and sets the tone for the album. "No Self Control" and "I Don't Remember" are less tense but still build on the theme of great pop songs wrapped in layers of paranoia. Anti-war rally "Games Without Frontiers" is probably the most popular song on here and features haunting backing vocals from Kate Bush and a whistled melody that almost doesn't work but is impossible to shake. The only songs I don't like on the album are "Start," which is a minute and a half of what sounds like a cheap MIDI melody and a shitty 80's sax solo, and "Family Snapshot," which is supposed to be the album's emotional centerpiece but ends up just being pure schmaltz as far as I'm concerned.
ONe of my favorite things about 3 is the weird little approaches they took to the sound. Phil Collins doesn't play cymbals at all throughout the album because they wanted the drums to sit exclusively in the lower part of the register.
Amusement Parks on Fire.
I had always kind of discounted them due to the stupid band name, but the song "Of the Collapsing Light/Alafoss Exit" came up on my ipod on random shuffle the other day from their Young Fight EP and I really loved it.

I've only listened to last year's Road Eyes and i really loved it. We had never heard of them and they totally blew heather and i away during their performance at the Echo during Culture Collide back in October. Phenomenal live band. i need to get their other stuff.

Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, and Pieces of a Man. The first one is mostly live spoken word/poetry, the second is jazz/funk influenced songs

The Mekons.
My library has a bunch of their CD's. I've only heard Fear and Whiskey and The Mekons Rock 'N Roll, any other albums I should check out?
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
