It's a bootleg recorded directly to a cassette tape made out of the bones of innocent women slaughtered during the Salem witch trials and the webbing of black widow spiders.

I second what Mr. Dale Gribble stated. It might not be my favorite of all the albums, but it is the best place to start.

Tom Waits - most people would probably recommend Rain Dogs, but my personal favorite is Alice.

Scott Walker - Scott 3, although really 1-4 are all magnificent.

Bonemachine and Pork Soda are also greats from Tom and Les that would be fine starting points.

I'd say starting with Strawberry Jam is better. That is where I started, I think if you like that you are more likely to enjoy going father back in their career and the newer stuff will be enjoyed even more.

If you like happy (sometimes obnoxiously so) pop music then start with SJ. If you like more laid back, psychedelic, 60's (yet still poppy in that way) music then start with MPP.

MPP is what got me into them, personally.

i adore Avalon, but I'm more of a fan of Roxy Music adult contemporary stuff for some reason. It's a like an album of prom slow dance songs.

There is no good entry point to Jandek. Though his late-80s/early-90s output is the most accessible. Just download everything you can and see what's up. He is amazing, but most definitely not accessible.

Yeah Zach, Jandek is kind of an all-in or all-out sorta guy. He has albums that aren't as good, but really if you enjoy one you'll be able to fall into that deep, dark, weird hole that is his catalog.
