Groovy. I saw them two years ago at this mini-fest here in Miami. The lineup was electronica heavy so the majority of the crowd was elsewhere (I THINK daft punk was still going on, maybe) meaning I got to be EXTREMELY close without any trouble. And I mean CLOSE. the show was the dreamiest, creamiest blend of Duran Duran greatest hits I could only wish for. amazing fucking show.

also, I posted elsewhere that I thought "Astonaut" was better than "Red Carpet Massacre", it got me thinking so I listed to RCM today, and it's just...OK. the timbaland songs are kinda stale. I'm sure they didnt imagine that by the time the album was released the country was gunna be in Timbaland Fatigue, which is kinda what happened. theres a couple gems, but Astronaut is just so much fun

    sbesisso,

I Duran Duran (well there's only few British/European 80s new wave bands I don't like). I have most of their albums including ton of best of/greatest hits collection imports. *Is there a dance club in Miami area that plays or has 80s New Wave theme? Every time we go to club we always hope for DJs to play Rio, Reflex etc, yeah, some New Order, Depeche Mode and The Cure.*

I saw them in Boston in late 90s. It was an awesome show. Great times.

They played in Orlando/UCF arena early this year (a Sunday, if I'm not mistaken). It was kinda too late for me when I got to know that show. However, even though I was sick that day, I went to check the venue/area/type of fans attending few hours before the show. They were still selling tix at BO (I thought it's expensive since it's not close to the stage). They had short setlist (but I guess pretty same # of songs we got in that show I went and it's normal in DD shows) they played in almost every show in that leg of their tour. I'm now wishing I still went (I got the impression that the diehard fans in DD message boards who went to some of the shows were underwhelmed/disappointed).

Yeah, I've been checking (and hoping for updates) leg of that North American tour since I saw it late last week in Ticketmaster. I feel more terrible in not forcing myself to that Orlando show.

Now it will be really expensive/cost me lot of money if I go to the Mexico or NJ dates.

Awesome thread, Salah! I don't know if I belong in here, I don't know any of their recent stuff, but as I've said in another thread - they were my very 1st concert (in 83 or 84?)!On their Seven and the Ragged Tiger tour. I used to have Duran Duran wallpaper, courtesy of Tiger Beat and Bop! magazines. I saw them again in 2003 at this:

Yes! It was so 80's-fabulous. I was just talking about this show in another thread recently about Marc Almond. Someone else from this board was there too, I think it was Ivankay - wonder if he has any good pics.

Agreed on Astronaut > RCM. I have Astronaut in SACD.

In the 80's, guys who went to dance clubs had to incorporate either a Duran Duran look or a Depeche Mode look to get a girl on the dance floor. It was like a girl asking you to wear her ex boyfriend's shirt to get her in the mood.

These guys went through women like cigarettes. I'm surprised none of them have died from syphilis.
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

Nope. Just great memories. i went as a regular civilian and didn't do any espionage picture taking. Too bad because i was about 16 rows back. As i mentioned in the previous thread, that was my first time seeing Duran Duran and they were excellent. Saw them a year later at Staples and it was even better.

DD for Coachella? That would be fun.

Rio is one of the best songs to karaoke. i don't do the karaoke very often, but one night drinking in a place that had it going on had me up and doing a sexy (in my mind at least) "Hey now! Wow Look at that!" that got the house going nuts.

Oh. idrive1life, i would like to add Midnight Oil and Oingo Boingo to your 80's @ Coachella 09.

You have to add them ya know? They cancelled this past year, so its more of ''get them back and let em play'' kind of thign next year. They are a fun band to watch live thats for sure.

That's me and my daughter with the band at Jones Beach in 2005. The angle is funny - I'm actually 6'3", but I guess I was squatting down or something. I was also still in my chubby phase, which thankfully has been in reduction since early this year.

I got the band to sign the pictures in Chicago in 2006. I've met them a bunch of times, mostly through pulling professional strings. They've all been incredibly nice to me, especially John and Nick.

I guess I've seen them 12 or 13 times since 1984, and I'll be there once again this December.

I actually quite like Red Carpet Massacre. There's a couple of clankers - like "Falling Down" - but overall, it works for me.
