What's with the FourLokoers criticizing others for their drink choices?
That word is not to be mentioned in this thread.
The Cocktail and Liquor Lounge is not the place to be criticizing people's taste in drinks. Our mission is to get drunk, not squabble like schoolgirls.
vodka, right? the other i like a lot is Skyy. as vodka goes, it's all about clean for me. these two employ the very best distilling techniques (to clean out the nasties).
side story....Maurice Kanbar (founder of Skyy) was a donor of mine in a previous life. one day at a party he explained why he invented Skyy (he was already a multi-millionaire by then). Vodka was his favorite spirit, but it made him really sick when he drank it. he figured out that there was a certain congener in nearly all Vodka that was the source of his suffering. he then went about and developed his now famous filtering technique and Skyy was the result. don't be dissuaded by it's low(ish) price. there is some technology underlying that clear liquid.
having said that, Hangar One is just sublime.
There are different times for different experiences. If I plan to get royally fucked up, and it's a party-like atmosphere, Four Loko works well. It has nothing to do with my affinity for sipping on fine glasses of liquor on other occasions.
what a waste of liver and brain cells.
if i really want to get trashed, i will drink the good stuff and finish it off with something sticky sweet that makes you think a skunk has entered the room.
I'm taking a wee break from drinking at the moment, so reading along rather vicariously. :/
My go-to drink in dives or crowded bars is captain morgan and coke, a double if I doubt the bartender. I tend to go about with a flask of rum.
But otherwise, my preferences are:
- Vodka and diet red bull
- Bloody Mary (I'm really picky though & I think I make GREAT bloody marys)
- Vodka martini very dirty (which I cannot make worth a damn, anyone want to tutor me on this?)
- Citrus vodka with cranberry juice or tonic (usually absolut mandarin)
- Margarita, rocks, made simply with just fresh lime, a dash of simple syrup, a little bit of triple sec and tequila. I'm weird that I'll use not-top-shelf tequila but use Cointreau for the triple sec.
- If I can get a FRESH fruit margarita I will have one any time.
- Due to the negative influence of a certain board member, I have been drinking something referred to as a 'sweet tart', grape vodka and red bull.
- I can be suckered into almost novelty drink.
i'll make you a nice martini next time you're over, heidi. i make them filthy.
Wow, Drew, Skyy is one of the few vodkas I cannot stomach at all. It has a really weird aftertaste for me. I will drink $5/fifth Ukrainian vodka before Skyy.
yes, you really are an alien.
I would rather drown myself with tequila. Cazadores or Corralejo please!
In fact while I was in Ohio a couple of weeks ago, my brother pointed out to me that they actually just sell bottled "olive juice" which solved my problem of running out of juice before olives.
You guys are one more alcohol related thread from getting smiley bombed.
i recently had some great stuff that is a bit pricey but worth it
caol isla 12 year scotch
hudson valley bourbon whiskey
and my new favorite beer (goes great with the whisky too)
I also had my first sidecar the other day and i could definitely drink them all day if i had to

We'd find the sombrero "hats" all over the house. Hahaha.
Vodka or rum are my drinks to drown myself in, due to some unfortunate experiences I no longer can drink tequila shots without wanting to retch.
Yeah, not sure why anyone would think Skyy is that great of a vodka. Ketel One, Grey Goose, and Belvedere are light years better, as far as bottles you can find almost anywhere go.
And I assume everyone has realized by now that Absolut is shit vodka with a clever marketing campaign.
I like a couple of the Absolut flavored vodkas, but not normal Absolut. Used to drink a lot of Bel but for some reason I perceive a strange after taste from it now.
At Sasquatch this year, ZonkerB had the best vodka I've ever tasted in my life -- was made by her friend's father or something like that. (Unfortunately the project failed so not available to buy).
Stoli Vanilla and Coke is DELICIOUS.
this and suggest it next time you feel like splurging.
Edit - it seems like the price varies pretty dramatically depending on where you find it. Looks like you might be able to get it cheaper than I can.
