Bulleit Bourbon is great. I also highly recommend Ridgemont Reserve's 1792, very fair price and my favorite bourbon for the price. Also, Blanton's Bourbon is fantastic as well, a bit more expensive, but well worth it.

And try working your palate into drinking bourbon straight up. On the rocks is perfectly fine, but you get more of the aromas if its straight up

If any of you get a chance try Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey, small distillery here in Denver. Amazing stuff.

My favorite bartender at my favorite bar locally makes all these amazing drinks that I'm in love with. Whenever I go there, I just ask him to make me whatever his newest creation. They're always amazing. For example recently:

-basil, lemongrass, gin, hawaiian ginger simple syrup, soda
-green tea, lychee, vodka

But in terms of classics, I'm a big fan of sidecars, a basic gin and tonic, or just whiskey on the rocks.

I'm also very comfortable telling a good bartender to make whatever they feel like making - I just give them a few pointers (no whisky or tequila, not too sweet) and let them do their thing. This is not something I recommend doing at dives, but if you know the bartender's rep and if their bar stock of liquor/extras is quality, you'll get something amazing.

Exactly! A good bartender views their job as an art and a form of craft. Give them a direction like miscorrestions said (i like bitter, spicy, etc.) and let them do their thing. The bartender also appreciates an interested drinker too

.5 oz. Orgeat
.5 oz. Mathilde Peche
.25 oz. lemon juice
1 egg white
3 dashes Angostura bitters

Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass garnish with a peach slice dusted with nutmeg.
