Can't be that much of a fail. I'm sure that iTunes will outsell the physical boxset tenfold.

Most things about iTunes are a fail.

The concept is genius but the application is poor.

No, the marketing is what makes itunes genius. Basically it has told us we have to use itunes or be useless. Making a less than great product in to something you must have and which dominates the market, well that is genius!

iTunes is a breakeven operation for Apple.

I'd be interested in seeing some support for this statement.

The concept is excellent; a single app to buy, download, manage and play your music. I just don't like the format (.aac) or its tie to iPods.

my biggest complaint about itunes is how bloated it is. i like my media players pretty stripped down... it also totally craps out on me with the size of my music library... so i basically use it only as a library for stuff i've downloaded in the last few months or so to sync to my iphone... but typically use Cog to play most of what I listen to on my computer.

Which media player do you primarily use? Winamp? I'm fine with itunes for the most part... wouldn't mind trying something new though.

EDIT* Directed at anyone who doesn't use itunes.

idiot #1-HOLY SHIT DO YOU REMEMBER THE DAY THAT ITUNES FINALLY GOT THE BEATLES CATALOGUE!?!?!?!

idiot #2- HOW COULD I FORGET!?!?!?!

i mean... from a business stand point it is kind of a big deal. up until this point the most popular band in history has not been digitally distributed in an authorized manner.

iTunes is the equivalent of RealMedia Player.

ok, you are right. I just assumed everyone, you know, already had the beatles especially after all the hoopla surrounding the re-releases

It's called advertising. It might be a bit of an overstatement, but it shouldn't be a shock to anyone that they did it that way.

I kinda think in the history of The Beatles and their music somewhere towards the back of the book they'll talk about the partnership that they struck up with Apple and what it did in terms of digital sales. To have a band still making headlines the way that they do is pretty remarkable.

People will buy anything twice (or more) if they feel they have to. They have 3 of the top 10 albums on iTunes already and the catalog has been sale for what, not even 28 hours?

it's just a stripped down media player for os x that plays all audio formats. it remembers your current playlist and you can clear or add to it as you want. it's simple, elegant, and really light on resource consumption.
