vinyl's right. Chicago is pretty much the world capital for old school house. You'd probably love Derrick Carter (but probably missed his set at coachella '06). I personally don't care for the old school, but can appreciate it's qualities. After experiencing the breaks scene in SF for several years I've learned to respect house's unpretentiousness.

The EDM scene is actually about to experience a house revival. in recent years europe had been diverging, with UK leading the way with big beat , later spawning breakbeat and Germany going minimal. At this point I think both scenes are starting to get over it. popular breaks tracks are starting to meld into a more 4X4 type thing and the minimal scene in germany is perhaps starting to realize they'd rather have fun again. The result of both are techier version of house (althought the current use of the term "tech house" refers to mostly crap). my last lloacheca mix was mostly house. I'll see if I can dig up the tracklist.

With the proliferation of production software like ableton and reason, shit is exploding quick. That means a bunch of complete shit out there, but it also means cool shit from people we may have never gotten a chance to see.
Sifting through DJ websites is almost the new crate digging. It's exciting times.
Dear God, somebody should change this man's poster name to "The Prophet." lol. I've never perused this thread until now because I figured it would be way too obtuse to actually learn anything from it, but man, this one post sums up the last 7 years perfectly lol. Back in 2007 I was still hooked on trance. Above and Beyond, W&W, Dash Berlin, The Blizzard, etc. But now, with this house revival, I can't seem to listen to anything else. Deep house, minimal, old school, acid, etc. are the only things that are still interesting and provide diversity from the main stream. Trance's taste has gone so flat for me. Hope it keeps moving in a good direction and I hope the Yuma keeps catering as well as it has been. Keep all shitties quarantined in the Sahara.

^ It was supposed to open last year! I'm guessing Richie Hawtin will be playing there soon. He's gonna be in NY next month....

Richie Hawtin Debuts Sake Collection in the US
    Enter Space

Music isn’t the only industry in which DJ and producer Richie Hawtin has made a name for himself. In 2012, the techno heavyweight launched his boutique line of Sake (created with the Matsumoto Sake Brewery in Kyoto) at his renown club concept ENTER. in Ibiza out of a wish to share his passion for Japanese culture with friends and fans. Two years since that initial debut, Hawtin takes his Sake collection and Shochu brand to the US. The line is scheduled to launch in the U.S. this September, followed by a broader release in Europe later this fall. The collection will make its debut exclusively at the swanky TAO Downtown restaurant in New York City. The launch at TAO will mark the first time the Sake has been made available outside of Ibiza.

“We are thrilled to have ENTER.Sake as an exclusive offering at TAO Downtown. [Sake Master] Richie Hawtin has proven the brand’s success in Ibiza and we are looking forward to bringing its refined complexity to our guests stateside,” said Noah Tepperberg, a partner at TAO Group. enter-sacca-richie

ENTER.Sake will arrive at TAO Downtown with two variations: the balanced and zippy medium dry ENTER.Black, and its more refined and complex counterpart, ENTER.Gold. They are the first two options in a complete line of sake and shochu that Hawtin plans to release in Europe and the US.

To celebrate the launch of ENTER.Sake, Hawtin will host an exclusive invite-only evening at TAO on Friday, Septebmer 26.

Also liking Aroy Dee's album Sketches. It's heady, futuristic, and spacey but has a classic sound to it. Have a feeling this one is going to stick around a bit for me.

Really enjoy what Box Aus Holz puts out. The latest EP comes in part from Glenn Astro, who's been releasing some awesome music. Also, it wouldn't be a BAH release without Max Graef on the remix tip.

Are there any OC venues that play house music in the vein of After in Vegas? There's Kitsch kind of, but that's more of a lounge with background music. Open to LA suggestions I suppose as well.

He has had a pretty impressive year of releases. Haven't really found a live set that I've really enjoyed front to back yet from him though. Hold On from last year is a jam as well.

I've seen Moodymann three times now and I feel like it's never really been good yet I still want to see him again. Seeing a killer set from Moodymann I feel like is my White whale for house music right now.

On the other hand, Metro Area has ALWAYS delivered super fun great music sets. I'll probably never miss a set from them if they are playing local. I might even fly to another city to see them again in the future. I would love to see them headline the Yuma. ESPECIALLY IF DRAKE IS HEADLINER
