    Default ATP Tokyo February 2011

On Sunday 27th February 2011, All Tomorrow's Parties will collaborate with Japan's Creativeman to present their first Japanese event. Named after the b-side to The Velvet Underground's original All Tomorrow's Parties 7" single, the one day I'll Be Your Mirror event will take place at Studio Coast, Tokyo, Japan.

Acting as sister events to the ATP Festivals which usually take place in holiday resorts, I'll Be Your Mirror will be a new series of curated events taking place in cities worldwide. For this first event ATP will curate with a stunning line-up of artists to be announced soon when tickets go on sale. The intimate event will feature music, DJs, and art from James Jarvis of Amos Toys.

ATP promoter Barry Hogan: "We feel really excited that we are finally coming to Tokyo to present some of our favourite Japanese and International artists. It's been something we've wanted to do for many years and this first edition of I'll Be Your Mirror will be a sample of future projects we plan to bring to Japan."

Following Tokyo, the next I'll Be Your Mirror will be an artist curated event taking place in the UK in Summer 2011.

For any I'll Be Your Mirror Tokyo press or event enquiries please contact: Yoshinari Hirayama: hirayama AT creativeman.co.jp or Riki Domen: rikidomen AT me.com

Ahhhhhh so psyched about this. Five hour flight is infinitely better than ten hour flight plus two hour drive. Assuming the lineup for this is good (and I would expect nothing else from ATP) I'm most likely going to try to make it.

Annnd scratch that. I should read more carefully. One day. I'm thinking it's probably not worth flying across half of the Pacific for a one-day event. But you know, feel free prove me wrong with some extraordinary lineup, ATP.

Should us ATP NY faithful be concerned by this:

I'm definitely concerned. This email heralded a sinking feeling in my stomach. I mean, much as I'd love to go to Tokyo, that's a bit more of a financial commitment than I'm capable of making.

But the fact that it's only a one-day event, coupled with the fact the it's not going to be in a resort-type environment, makes me think that this is a very different kind of beast.

Maybe I'm an optimist, but I'm not sure why this event or the summer UK one would herald any sort of changes for ATP NY.

traditionally, it doesn't appear that they've done a summer UK festival. I'm hoping it's not replacing the summer US festival.

I'll Be Your Mirror is completely different; it's not a 'festival' as such, more a day long curated show.

Not completely assuaged, as no info's come out on the NY front (unlike past years). Will set loose Gojira if things do not work out.

Oh man, that'd be the best excuse to make a trip to NY if there was a 3-day ATP. Depending on how this looks and if I have any money, I'd love to go to this.

Tokyo is an incredible place. This would indeed be a great excuse to go back. if the line up were interesting enough, it'd be awesome to get out there and just spend a few days roaming around the city before/after the show, even as a one-dayer.

With United's frequent flyer restructuring, it costs the same amount of miles for me to go to Japan as it does to go to the continental US. So I should probably just go to Japan. And plus, being in Narita means access to the beer dispenser of awesomeness.

That is an amazing invention. I also like purchasing my food out of vending machines and giving tickets of what i want to waiters. There were also several bars where we had to pre-buy drink tickets from vending machines and give them to the bartenders

I will be in Japan until June 2012 and this is the kind of thing I'm trying to go to while I'm there (no coachella for me).

Okay, I found out about this a few hours ago (right after waking up in the morning, in fact), remembered that there was a pretty lively discussion on these boards about the New York ATP, and came here wondering if maybe there was a thread on the new Tokyo edition too. Needless to say, I was flabbergasted to find out that the thread has close to thirty posts already!

I live in Tokyo, so naturally, I'm excited that ATP is finally coming over here, but there are a few factors that sort of temper my excitement:

-This is a single-day event held at the Studio Coast, so I'm assuming that there isn't going to be much in terms of the magical ATP vibe that most of us in Japan have only read about but never experienced first hand.

-I'm slightly concerned that the press release says that they'll be bringing their favorite "Japanese and international artists" instead of "international and Japanese artists." I think the order matters, because this leads me to believe that the lineup will be heavy on local talent, with a smattering of international acts thrown in. I mean, don't get me wrong, I listen to craploads of Japanese artists, but I also see craploads of Japanese artists on a regular basis, so I would hope that there's enough international talent in there to make this thing special and worthwhile.

That said, I have low standards, so depending on lineup, ticket costs, and other factors, there's a fairly decent chance I'll be there. I kind of wish that this were on a Saturday instead of Sunday, but I'm just being a whiny ass now.
