Default Led Zeppelin vs. Rolling Stones w/ POLL

When i think about legendary British blues based rock bands that formed in the 60s and really rocked the 70s - i think these 2 are the kings. Sure there were others that were huge (floyd, beatles, the who, etc) but these 2 really i think are really more similar than some of the others and that's why i'm excluding them. I put the beatles more in the pop category and floyd more in the prog/psychedelic category.

So, of these 2 bands, which is the king of the bluesy british classic rock world to you?

    for many reasons

    1) both are legendary classic rock bands
    2) both are british
    3) both very much part of the british blues rock tradition
    4) both popular during the same time of the 60s/70s
    5) both still popular to this day across many generations

i'm sure i can think of more

Without being able to see who voted for what, I would guess that most people over the age of 30 voted for the Stones and most people under the age of 25 voted for Zep. (25-30 could go either way.) Could be wrong, though. Led Zeppelin is a band I loved in junior high and high school. While I still understand the appeal, I don't generally seek out the albums anymore. I listen to the Stones at least once a week.

I feel the Stones kinda reinvented blues for a wider audience to appreciate, whereas Zeppelin kinda copied the early blues artists.

To be fair, the Stones are you favorite band. So your opinion is definitely biased.
    4/27 - Ghost BC - Fonda (?)
    4/29 - Franz Ferdinand - Wiltern (?)
    4/30 - Mono - Troubadour (?)
    5/03 - Philip Glass - Royce Hall
    5/06 - Rodrigo y Gabriela - Orpheum (?)

I feel like Jon Bonham's drumming is likewise unbearable on about half the songs. I understand he was technically quite skilled, but the style is simply to beat the shit out of the kit, every single time. Charlie Watts' drumming adds so much more.

Led Zeppelin for the slower, groovier, songs like No Quarter and Babe Im Gonna Leave You. Rolling Stones for the straight up rock songs. Overall, Led Zeppelin.

White Album and Sgnt Pepper are very prog/psychedelic and influenced Syd Barret to such a degree that you have no Floyd without the fab 4.

Zeppelin, I always thought were a little pretentious, talking about black magic and shit, almost in the same vain Jim Morrison(mr mojo risin, lizard king) was a little pee pee. The Stones gave it to you straight forward...real R&B...so I vote Stones.

Sgt Pepper was an influence to a slight degree, but to say that there would have been no Floyd, basing it on those two albums is factually incorrect.

They were recording Piper at the Gates of Dawn at the same studio that the Beatles were recording Sgt Pepper, and observed some of the sessions and recording techniques....but Piper and Sgt Pepper were only released two months apart, so Piper would have existed with or without Sgt. Pepper's influence.....it has also been claimed that Floyd were an influence on the suddenly psychedelic turn that the Beatles took.

The White Album was recorded and released after both Piper and Saucerful of Secrets, Barrett's only Floyd albums, were completed, so the White Album wouldn't seem to have much impact on the development of Floyd.

When I was 15 I would have said Zeppelin, but I've kinda grown out of them.

    Rolling Stones got my vote.
