To be perfectly frank, that's my biggest concern for this record. He was such an essential part of their sound, what is going to happen without him there.

But thank god they've got a new one coming. I love this band so so much.
I'm the exact same way. There's such a brilliant cohesion to all of their songs strung together in the album. I'm not particularly taken with this track, except the fuzziness in the last minute and a half or so has me very excited for the album as a whole.

sad to see josh go. kinda wish i knew what happened to him. they added a new guitarist as well?

the new song is pretty awesome. super wild sound. very stoked to see them at these upcoming shows before the record is released. i'll see them at primavera but probably try to catch them at a more intimate venue, seeing them at deerhunter ATP as well. making up for lost time....

as for the fingers, i think i read it was a dedication to his dad who lost two fingers in a work related accident lol. i dont think his fingers are really fucked.

The addition of the new guitarist is very exciting. As I've said before, the best shows I've seen them do have all been five-man lineups, and the best was when they had three guitarists (Bradford, Lockett and Whitney.) That freed Bradford up to jump onto synths and noisemakers at times, and it also allowed Lockett to really let loose with the noise. I wonder what Colin Mee is up to these days?

Edit: apparently FYF in 2007 was his last show with the band. The way things went down on stage, I can understand why.

At that show Bradford kept walking over to Colin and detuning his guitar, then he turned his amp way down. It was bizarre and kind of uncomfortable, but they took that tension and turned it into one hell of a set.

WTF? Bradford Cox is an absolute cock. The knob has basically tried his best to be this generation's Morrissey but doesn't have the wit, charisma or talent to pull it off.

This interview was pretty funny. Or maybe I feel that way b/c I only like 4 or 5 Smiths songs.

I listened to 'Monomania' the other night (the song), I enjoyed it.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Deerhunter have put out so many better songs than Morrissey solo. The Smiths were pretty excellent, but Morrissey is a self-righteous twit who wants everyone to be just like him.

Ha! This is so silly. Can't say I disagree with Moz on the Ramones, though. Seems like people misunderstand Morrissey and get caught up in attacking the caricature we've made him out to be.

That article just shows that Morrissey was always an arrogant, tone-deaf twit. Ramones wipe the floor with the Smiths.

How is Morrissey hating on the Ramones, any different from Bradford Cox hating on Morrissey/The Smiths. Seems to me he (Bradford) is perpetuating the egotistical attitude that he hates in Morrissey.

That being said, Morrissey deserves much of the hate he gets, and I much prefer Deerhunter to either The Smiths or Morrissey.

Did you read the Morrissey comments on Ramones? They're quite different from saying, "This guy is an asshole who was in a decent band with some awesome musicians, but dear god he presents himself as a huge prick." He (an English poet type) states that Ramones "fail miserably" at expressing the feelings of the youth of New York, something he would have absolutely no clue about, claims that subtlety is lacking from their music as if that weren't one of the goals of early Ramones albums, gives a desultory comparison to the Stooges (FUCK HIM, YOU DO NOT TALK BAD ABOUT THE STOOGES) and then says that only Patti Smith and the New York Dolls were worthwhile from the New York scene, completely ignoring the fact that 1) New York Dolls came up before any of the CBGB acts and 2) Television, Richard Hell, The Dead Boys, Talking Heads, Blondie, etc. etc. etc.

Bradford clearly states that he hates the Smiths "mainly because of their incredibly arrogant singer." I know plenty of people who share this opinion, and for good reason. That is quite different than hating on an act for not falling into your incredibly limited view of what good rock music can be. And, thankfully, we can all rest easy knowing that Joey Ramone would not have given a shit what that ponce thinks.

It was written July 1976, so there's that. And I think you're reading too much into the Stooges reference.

    holy shit.

I like all music, really, except The Smiths.
I love Deerhunter even more than I did before. WE'RE SOULMATES.

BC: The only Smiths songs I remotely like, the rhythm section makes the song. What's the song, "I haven't got a stitch to wear…?" "This Charming Man," the bass and drums on that song are pretty good, and I think the guitar is pretty good too. Basically everything except the terrible vocals. I should say this, though: There are worse lyricists. I can't think of any. But none come to mind. Can you just imagine The Smiths fronted by Darby Crash [of The Germs]? It might sound a little bit like Deerhunter. I mean, not to say I sound like Darby Crash. His lyrics, honestly, are comparable to, like, Rimbaud.

MA: It's such a good idea. I'm texting Goldenvoice right now, next year's Coachella has got it.

BC: A Darby Crash hologram fronting the rhythm section of The Smiths.
    see?

Oh, so he's being even bigger of a dick, ripping hard on a band that hadn't even yet released any music and had only received the most minimal of success.

I think I'm reading the Stooges reference as a rip, maybe not a strong one, but a rip nevertheless. I'd like to see Morrissey play any of James Williamson's solos, or, for that matter, anything Ron Asheton played.

And dear god, Darby Crash fronting the Smiths. That would have been out of this world.

Weren't Morrissey and the Stooges suppose to co-headline a show at Staples not too long ago, before it got cancelled? I imagine he respects them now if he didn't back then. And, aren't a majority of lead singers egotistical pricks? I don't agree with what he said about the Ramones, but why give a shit what Morrissey says anyway?

    Because fuck Morrissey?

Honestly, I treat him the way I treat Varg Vikernes (Burzum): I detest the dude, but enjoy a decent amount of his music.

And people, lets get one thing straight: it's Ramones. Loud, Fast, Ramones. Not Loud, Fast, The Ramones.

Wiki says Ramones released their debut earlier that year on Sire.

Moz has an adoration for Iggy Pop, I know that. Not too sure what he thinks of the Stooges, though.

Anyway, there's no reason to give a shit what Morrissey thinks if you already don't give a shit about Morrissey.

This isn't a thread about Morrissey though, as much as he'd like it to be, as much as we're allowing him to permeate the air with his foul and fey musk.

One of the cooler live Deerhunter moments I've seen:

Later in the set, they were joined by Dan of Grizzly Bear on guitar.

English punk rockers vs American punk rockers.

I was talking to Ian from Black Lips on SS Coachella and describe Bradford not in the extact words but in the sense that he is a diva.Which every time I have gotten to talk to Bradford, He was very nice and yes was "loud" about his taste in music.

Finally listening to the new album. The third track starts up, and I'm thinking, "damn, this just got good."

    It's Lockett's track, of course.
