I'm bringing suit against Alchemy Tim both for the content of this thread and for the generous alimony payments owed to me following that ill-conceived weekend in Vegas last fall, now legally dissolved but still weighing heavily on my heart with visions of picket fences, financial stability, and the fairytale life we might have had if only he'd been able to stay clean longer than it takes for a prostitute with still-clinging cocaine in the shapely hollow of her clavicles to swagger by with bedroom eyes and ill intentions. You'll be hearing from my lawyer.

He was our lawyer and Vegas was his ill-conceived idea! Come to think of it, I don't even think that Gary Busey has a law degree, little lone a certificate that allows him to practice law. But either way, you will not extradite me from the Northeast to your Northwest courthouses!

How did this slip by us??

    Oct 3rd (this sunday!)
    Chapterhouse
w/ A Place To Bury Strangers, Ulrich Schnauss, and Soundpool
    La Poisson Rouge

    doors @ 6:30

I might have attempted that gig if it was on a Saturday and I knew about it in advance.

Is it with a Place to Bury Strangers? I didn't see them originally. I had planned to go for Ulrich Schnauss

Incidentally, I'm unfortunately out for DC Underworld. But I'll be dancing SO fast at the NYC date.

Yeah its with A Place to Bury Strangers - just got an email from the APTBS team and they said they were on the bill too (right before Chapterhouse).

Dude, them + Ulrich + Chapterhouse is almost a dream come true for me. I mean, fucking shit.

And it sucks you can't make it out to DC for the UW show - but one gig is still better than none!

That's pretty cool. I'll let you know how it is. I hope it doesn't sell out with them announced, being that it's a smallish venue and they're a New York band.

doh! it appears I had the wrong date. I'm on the APTBS mailing list, this is what their email today said:

A Place to Bury Strangers will be performing with Chapterhouse this Monday October 4 at Le Poisson Rouge. Its a really great bill:

    6:30pm – door
    7:30pm – Soundpool
    8:30pm - Ulrich Schnauss
    9:30pm - A Place To Bury Strangers
    10:30pm – Chapterhouse

This show is going to sell out fast. You can buy tickets here:

My mistake. So its on Monday.

Those dudes from Chapterhouse are really fucking nice - I hope this tour sends them off in a blaze of glory. I'll be there in Brooklyn on Sunday night and will possibly make it to Monday's show as well.

Chapterhouse was phenomenal tonight. Ulrich Schnauss sounded amazing, though if not for the disorienting travelogue shot against the back wall it would have been some dude with a bad haircut sitting at a laptop, and if I'd have wanted to see that I'd have set up a mirror at my desk. Dead Leaf Echo opened, and they were quite good in the "classic" shoegaze vein.

Also, saw A Place to Bury Strangers in Richmond this past weekend. Great show. Ollie is developing quite a stage presence; he and the bassist were destroying guitars left and right at the end. alot of energy for a "shoegaze" type act. rough setlist:

    in your heart
    i know i'll see you
    ??
    deadbeat
    ego death
to fix the gash in yr head
    girlfriend
    half-awake
    ??
i lived my life to stand in the shadow of your heart
    ocean

I don't know Schnauss' music well enough to remember what he played, though it all sounded pretty terrific.

Chapterhouse played mostly Whirlpool-era tracks (including b-sides), with very little from Blood Music. "Breather" was brilliant, as were "Falling Down," "Then We'll Rise" (my favorite of their b-sides), "Pearl" and "Precious One" (another great b-side). They also played their cover of the Beatles' "Rain," re-starting maybe 30 seconds in after realizing Stephen Patman's guitar wasn't on.

Chapterhouse with Ulrich Schnauss performing "Love Forever"

    Chapterhouse

    Chapterhouse actually shoegazing!

Nice. Money talks unfortunately prevent me from going to the le poisso rouge show tonight.

But this week I'm doing Roger Waters -> Hold Steady -> Gorillaz (fingers crossed for the last two, banking on pulling something last minute from buddies).

I have to work the Pepper show this Wednesday, not looking forward to it. But I'm seeing Deerhunter w/ Casino vs Japan this Sunday, one of the rare instances where I'm more excited for the opener than I am the headliner.

Still working on Gorillaz myself. My girlfriend said she'd take me as my birthday present, but I'm still trying to prove I've got some professional pull to get press tickets. That means I'd have to review the show, but it'd be worth it. Either way, I'll be there on Friday night, and so will Lou Reed and Mos Def.
