I like the top 10, much better than Rolling Stone's top 10 back in 2003.

Has anyone bothered to actually listen to fucking Thriller lately? It's a Toto record for chrissakes.
I also like that Pet Sounds is put in context of Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective. Our attention span goes back all of 12 months these days.
I don't even enjoy lists anymore.
Lauren Hill but no Fugees?
That same exact thing happened on the Pitchfork list.
@GrossMagic - I actually I agree with that, I think Lauryn's solo album is better than the Score.

I like Abbey Road at #1 more than the usual Sgt. Pepper's pick.

Abbey Road shouldn't even be included in the top 5 Beatles albums, in my opinion.
*based upon tedious fact checking.
Really?
I haven't decided which Beatles album I think is better but it's between those two for me. I lean towards Abbey Road though, I'm in the "Sgt. Pepper is everyone's favorite because it's 'different'" camp. Although I don't think I'd have the Beatles at #1....

Do Pitchfork, CoS, Spin, Rolling Stone, etc just make lists now? Top 100 albums, top 50 songs, top albums of the 90s, top 100 songs of the 80s, on and on.
Fresh off his "JUICY AUSTRALIA TOUR"
@westcoast, lists get website hits, what can you say. It's CoS's 3rd year anniversary, that's the justification.
Also if everyone else is doing it you also have to, that's business.

Not bad, here's a few of my thoughts:
lol at John Lennon's Imagine making the list. Blood Sugar Sex Magic being higher than Slanted and Enchanted and Kid A (or even for making the list) s a joke too. Both of those should have been much higher; Crooked Rain and The Bends should have been on that list as well. What's up with Duty Now For the Future being ranked so high as well, let alone it being the only representative of Devo when it's nowhere near s good as Are We Not Men? and Freedom Of Choice imo. The Strokes' Is this It? is waaaaay too high as well, though I wouldn't even have it on my top 100 list so perhaps I'm somewhat biased even though I do like it. Still think Nick Drake is grossly overrated by the media, and I wouldn't pick Pink Moon to represent him either (let alone that high). Ziggy should be WAY higher. Wtf at Meatloaf being in the 30's??? I never knew Meatloaf made good music, I always assumed he was just Meatloaf... can anyone corroborate this ranking? The Wall being ahead of Wish You Were Here is a huge joke; Dark Side is also too high imo. Still think Nevermind is insanely overrated even though the 30's is actually pretty good for a media list (most have it in the top 20). Bullshit that only two Bowie albums made it, let alone the notion that Unknown Pleasures and Doolittle ranked higher than any Bowie album. The omission of Built To Spill is absurd to me; There's Nothing Wrong With Love or Perfect From Now On would have definitely made my list. The Score should be on there as well.
edit: Oh yeah, and It Takes a Nation... is not one of the 20 best albums ever. Perhaps one of the most important, but not one of the best. Terminator-X's beats get seriously repetitive and it's a struggle for anyone to listen all the way through.

Yeah I agree on It Takes a Nation too. I like it but I can't get through it usually.

Public Enemy, The Clash and The Beach Boys are all seriously overrated.
With our love-we could save the world-if they only knew.
Have you ever listened to Bat Out of Hell? It's super cheesy, overly operatic and melodramatic, but it's a great album.

Oh, well then. it's definitely a product of its time, but it's extremely entertaining. if you've ever seen Rocky Horror Picture Show and remember his songs, you get somewhat of an idea of what it sounds like.
