First off- want to say I'm sorry I missed ya jaimie. I had meant to at least say 'hello' but got sidetracked the last few days. Dawned on me when I got into the pit on Billy's side you were probably in there somewhere. Next time!
I don't have a lot to add to the already comprehensive reviews here but I would be remiss if I did not add my voice to just how awesome Billy is live. Yes, the whole band connects and fires like a machine when its on. But Billy is a goddamn mind blowing presence and last night solidified him for me as not only an excellent songwriter and guitarist, but a great performer. We spend a lot of time around here talking about the pros and cons of various bands, but the reason I go to concerts is to see people like Billy and the performance he turned in last night. Unique, engaging... just cannot say enough about him now. Up close you can see in his face just how much he loves what he does. And he wants you to feel the same way about it. And won't give up till you do! And clean, terribly underrated guitar playing. Incredible.
The rest of the band were great as well. Maynard in particular put to rest any fears I might have had about the integrity of his voice. Ya know what I got out of last night's show on him? He is a GREAT back up singer when Billy is singing! I could literally see the strain on Maynard's face he fought for perfection backing up Billy when he took lead. Props to him and the entire band for dialing it up for Los Angeles.
If you have ANY chance of seeing APC in its current form, you need to make it happen. The Package in particular for me is still the huge, thunderous moment you hope to hear at any hard rock show. That song alone delivers the goods enough to make it worth the price of admission.
