Thread: Prop 19: Coachella and the legalization of cannabis

Default Prop 19: Coachella and the legalization of cannabis

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the festivals official cannabis policy will be if prop 19 passes in November?

How many more years do we have to wait for the weed garden to pop up next to the beer garden. (also please don't let Heineken supply the weed)

    thanks

We're gonna blaze regardless. Altho, the stuff they sell in the shops in LA is pretty dank, I'd be all over it. Esp since AZ's a bunch of Nazi's about the issue.

Won't really matter, because Prop 19 only allows for consumption in non-public places. So you still can't consume in a public place-unless it is licensed.

Coachella/GV would not want to get in to anything allowing marijuana to be bought/sold or consumed on-site because Federal law would still trump State law. There would be a lot of complications with getting the festival licensed and insured. The last thing GV would want is DEA showing up.
Just expect things to be the same as last year. So I predict there will be no weed garden.

I should add I would see Indio Police Department and City raising serious objections to any event with a 'weed garden'-especially a music festival that is all ages. It is hard enough just getting a license to sell alcohol at these type of events.

No shit. People grossly misunderstand what the passage of this proposition even means. If it passes, I expect there will be a lot of people less guarded about their public consumption, shouting things like "Weed's legal now! Woohoo!" which while technically true doesn't mean they won't get slapped with a citation for smoking in a public space like Coachella. The idea that GV would ever even put in the effort to establish a weed garden is laughable.

What you say is true! The same thing applies in Amsterdam, where visitors believe it is 'legal' and the police won't do a thing. The police tolerate personal possession, but that doesn't mean anything goes.
All Proposition 19 is attempting to do is clarify state law. Possession of 1 ounce, consumption in residence or within licensed on-site premises, grow for personal use (25 square feet). Local governments still retain the rights to regulate the hours and location of any business.

Hell they don't even have weed gardens at any of the Euro festivals in Holland, Switzerland, Denmark or UK. Sure usage is liberally tolerated, but the buying/selling on site opens you to a whole bunch of legal problems.
I think it is more likely that festivals will start introducing 'no smoking' whatsoever.

I'd also like to add: I'm not sure how often this happens at festivals, especially to those that are frequent goers, and are experienced at concealing things, or bringing them in, or what have you, but 2010 was my first year attending Coachella. I was laying down by the internet cafe with my pot wreath hanging from my neck. A guy comes up to me, offers to smoke, we go around the side of the building, and as he begins to smoke, a guy is there, hooking up his phone charger to an outlet outside the tent cuz the ones in the cafe are all being used. A security guard starts to come our way, phone charging guy grabs phone and runs off, security sees guy hitting a pipe, yet disregards it and asks where the phone charging guy went, proceeds after him. Several moments later another security guard walks by, escorts us to the back of the tents kinda by the showers, cop takes the paraphernalia, and asks us to keep it in the tent next time. So. If you need to charge your phone, use the plug in the cafe.

You should have taken those few minutes to disappear into the crowd. Worst case, someone in the crowd would have asked for a hit.

Read marijuana laws for Cali before you puff there. I had 2 eights and numerous bags of shish I had just purchased when the pigs got me. Felony possesion with intent. They threw my pipe in the trash cause they new it would solidify their intent case against me . Don't fuck around in Indio kids.

What ended up happening to you on this bum-deal? Don't tell me you're still dealing with it. (Although it wouldn't surprise me since Indio courts are slow and lame.)

Why did you have your stuff seperated if you weren't intending to sell?

Well DOLL I got 3 yrs probation 6 months house arrest and stuck with a felony for life. Not too mention I shelled out $10,000 to a scheister that fuct me every which way. The whole incident cost me about 20k when it was all said and done. My life is thoruogly ruined as a result as far as jobs and renting properties go. I can't get a medical card either because that is the only charge that prevents you from getting one. I had never been arrested before or been in trouble. Violent criminals and. Theieves are allowed a card but not me. Riverside county bent over backwards to prosecute me for what anybody with a card can buy in a dispensary. I was out of state & didn't have a card so I was made an example of. Welcome to California home of the hippocritical judicial system. At first Iwas mad at the event for allowing the pigs in treat festival goers like this. I vowed not to return but didbecause I realize they have no control over what the pigs do unfortunately. Its all abut money not about what's right or wrong. And yes I'm still dealing with this shit and the felony will haunt me forever in the real world.

That's how dealers sell it and that's how dispensaries sell it. It could happen to anyone. Its not like it was crack, blow, meth, smack, molly or any other designer drug. Its sold "legally" in every fuckin county in Cali.

He said he had just bought it. Regardless the quantity was enough, the seperated bags just made possession easier to apply, but I am sure most law enforcement officers would have 'helped' him seperate it anyway. Just to be sure they had him banged to rights on possession

I'm sure that you can posses a little more than a quarter (if it is all in one sack) before the cops try to get you for intent.

Yes words of wisdom. But if yr at a fest and you score from somebody its bagged out. Yr partyin and you haven't got around to separating it and hello criminal world. I'm not expecting anybodys sympathy nor do I want it. I just want unsuspecting kids from outta state to realize this fest is NOT a cannabis amusement park. If one good kid is spared being a criminal for life from my advice and experience @ Chella then my spouting off is well worth it.

I don't think my conviction is eligible for expungement or sealing, I have to inquire tho. I wanted to be a teacher. I worked with inner city kids before teaching music @ an afterschool program. Now I can't. It was the most rewarding job I ever had. Can't go back cause of the charge. Sucks ass.

Sucks man. You should definitely try and get some more info on that. Having a felony for the rest of your life is seriously going to close so many doors in the future. Fuck the police.

This is why I chose to share my experience on here. I don't want any other good kid's future to be ruined. I wanna also state that I was a member of this message board 2 years before this incident. I didn't create an account to bash the police or Riverside judicial system. I was very bitter about the whole sitiation and still am to a certain degree. I've always considered myself an outcast of society's views anyways so fuck it. I've lost many of my Constitutional rights. To be honest that's what hurts the most is being excommunicated as an American for being a stoner & not being able to vote. SO BE IT! Whats done is done.
