Who's been? Who likes it? What is there to do? Anyone from there?
I go to school there / grew up near there.
Need specific likes and dislikes, because there is a ton to do in the city. It is also nothing like the rest of Texas.
I love Austin. Went there in 06 for the National Slam Poetry competition.
Love the enormous bat colony living under the Congress bridge. They fly into the night at the same time every day and the sight and sounds are unforgettable.
Wonderfully friendly and very eccentric people everywhere. Intense live music scene, of course. Awesome food. My fave teriyaki place there was called Wiki Wiki Teriyaki. Cheap and delicious.
And I met Quentin Tarantino there, which was a plus.
Yeah that's pretty much it. Driving during normal work traffic + lunch hours sucks. People used to complain that it was crowded with students but the metro population has practically doubled in the past 15 years while the student population has only increased by maybe 20%. South Congress can be overrun by hipsters sometimes and 6th Street can be overrun by douche bags but it's not bad enough to keep you from going there. Really fun city. SXSW, Fun Fun Fun, ACL on top of the only constant music scene in Texas is a huge draw for me.
I lived there briefly as a kid... went back a few years ago. Fun city.

Austin, Berkeley, Tucson. worst drivers on the planet. It's not the students, its the marginally-employable university hangers-on that don't have adequate attention span to execute a right turn appropriately.
Other than that though Austin is really fun. I almost always can manage to have a good time doing something there.
Only been to San Antoine and Dallas, but would like to check it out. For the BBQ, beer, and music. Sunshine.
*there are plans, but they have no dates*
Any of you folks live in Austin currently and going to fest? I'd like to connect with some fellow ATXers while at the fest. The friend I'm going with is a wild Pixie and she disappears frequently so it'd be nice to have fellow ATXers to hang out with. I've gone to many shows in Austin by myself and have no problm being by myself especially while seeing music, but this is a special event, and my first time so it'd be nice to know more people to connect with while there to share the experience with and maybe make some awesome new friends I can connect once back to ATX. And I'm sure I'll meet plenty of friendly cool people from all over the world too but I love my ATXers!
I went to Austin in 07, 08 and 09 for the ACL Fest. Cool city.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
