Thread: Who Will be Closing the Sahara?

  1. #1

Default Who Will be Closing the Sahara?

So it's been something more of a audio/visual spectacle the last few years and I'm expecting the trend to continue. Any rumors on an electronic artist comming out with a new visual set up to go with their set? Daft Punk has been talked about a lot since their performance in '06 but they will play main stage if they play so that doesn't count.

Edit: I should have put it in the thread title or in the post originally, but this thread is meant to discuss the clsoer for Sunday, THE FESTIVAL CLOSER.

If you were at Bonnaroo '09 then you would agree that they can put on a good performance.

End of discussion....But Rabbit in the Moon really shouldn't close since they really have been playing the same shit for so long, regardless of a 3D visual set up or whatever they want to bring.

And if you were at any RITM performance you would realize that they can put on a good show without producing shitty music like Crystal Castles or an annoying Ed Banger DJ/act.

Honestly, I am not a HUGE RITM fan, but I figure this -

    - They are theatrical
    - Never played Coachella before
    - They are a spectacle
    - They have headlined and sub headlined major SoCal parties in the past.

I enjoy the show and the fact that their next Coachella performance would be their first, it would be interesting to see how they would be received.

But you’re right, probably not relevant enough to close the Sahara in 2011

wah wah wah get over it Tuscon Rabbits not closing and neither are Crystal Castles or any Ed Banger artist. sooooooo that being said it could probably go one of 2 ways either some big name guido conglomerate, Swedish House Mafia, or an old school act like Faithless or Chemical Brothers or something like that.

Those two go together a lot of the time in case you didnt realize that.

Swedish House Mafia will not close the Sahara either. The other two I could see happening; especially The Chemical Brothers.

    "It's in the K" - Martha Stewart

Since the show list is very minimal...
    August 29 // Chemical Brothers w/ Chromeo & Yacht @ Hollywood Bowl
September 26 // Vampire Weekend w/ Beach House & the Very Best @ Hollywood Bowl
October 5 // ARCADE FIRE @ Henry Miller Library
October 13 // Corin Tucker Band @ The El Rey
(someone should give me Sufjan Stevens tickets, aint got none of those)

I could see them getting the closing slot for friday like Deadmau5 got this year with his set up, but closing is for something newer. I could have swore they had played before but I'm probably wrong, I know Bunny did a DJ set in the heineken dome last year but that's nowhere near them as a group being there.

i love Matt and Kim lol they put on a really fun show. But yeah out of all the ones I said I agree Chemical Brothers is the most likely, although I think I might prefer Faithless.

Chemical Brothers I don't see happening, they played 2 years ago with a DJ set and they are about to do 2 shows in california so i just don't see it. Swedish House Mafia would not be a festival closing set but could easily close out any other night.

There are plenty of acts to hate on; Matt & Kim not being one of them in my book.

whens the last time the Prodigy played... I don't even know if they have a new album coming out or anything but they have a big enough fan base, they are regarded by most as a classic edm group, and their music is still relevant...

Valid reasoning, but if they do a live performance I can see it happening. Maybe not a lock, but not completely out of the question.

I saw Prodigy play the main stage in 2002. Not sure if they are a Sahara act.

EDIT : Saw that they played the Sahara in 2005 so I stand corrected.

    RATM in the Gobi?

There has to be a newer closer for this year. We've had the pyramid and the cube so...pentagon would be next.

If they do a live performance then it probably won't happen in the Sahara.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Moby in the Friday 08 Fatboy Slim spot.

In terms of the closer, maybe Basement Jaxx live?

EDIT: Also, Fatboy Slim touring? All I could fin were two festival dates.
