I figured it would be easy. Another Calexico dio de los muertos thing.

*FAXMAN CURRENTLY PUTTING ALL PLANS ON HOLD*
I think I'm going to tell my parents to go to the Orpheum show.
Dale is telling us that Calexico will soon be announcing that their epic day of the dead show 'dio de los muertos' will be on the same weekend which should allow for a face melting weekend of music down in Tucson as well as the day of the dead parade. Joanna on Saturday and parade and Calexico show on Sunday at the historic Rialto Theater.
It's supposed to be "better" than the show last year. I should probably go. I've lived in Tucson for the longest time and I still haven't seen them.

Better? Crazy. There are a bunch of pictures I took from last year in the Calexico thread. It was awesome. Tons of decorations and pinatas throughout the venue, hanging ribbon eveyrwhere, confetti and they opened the show with a mock funeral procession with a coffin and all. They also were wearing dark makeup. That was the last time I saw Calexico as well so this is definitely going to be a great weekend in Tucson. My plan is get tickets to both of these shows and maybe crash at the Congress Hotel on Saturday night. If anyone else is interested in such a weekend, let me know and we can split a room and drive down.
How far of a drive is Tucson from Phoenix? My sister just started at ASU and I did promise I would go visit her. This seems like the perfect excuse, but that Saturday date works better for my schedule...
It hurts that I'll be in AZ that weekend and NOT going to see Joanna Newsom. (I would have to abandon the husband at the hotel, as he cannot stand her.) If you guys get "Emily" or "Cosmia" and Dallas does not, I will weep.

That's cool Gribbz. I will definitely keep that in mind and let you know once tickets and such are secured!
Judging by the fact that you haven't bothered to send in your RSVP, it appears that's what you'll be doing....
Honestly not that bad of a drive. We do it all the time. I may have overshot; more like an hour and fifteen. It's all freeway, and things move a lot better down there now that they've widened the I-10 once you get past Picacho Peak.
Also, you can stop at the Ostrich Farm and take hispter pics with giant birds.
He might have fun anyway; Tucson is a pretty cool little town. Worst case scenario, he can hang out in the bar at Hotel Congress across the street (right next door to Matt's place). Also, some people will be in town (Mike, etc.) that may not be going. Then you all can go down the street to the greasy rockabilly diner and get eggs.
I'm also trying to picture Matt's studio filled with air mattresses.
Mother fuckin' sleepover yall.
EDIT: I might actually be out of town for this. Mehhh.
