    Default Midpoint Music Festival

It appears like they took the convenient, top-down style poster away for some reason but here's the site: http://www.mpmf.com/schedule

Any suggestions on what to check out? I'm obviously seeing my friends' bands plus:

    Tom Tom Club
    Caribou
    A Place to Bury Strangers
    Surfer Blood
    Holy Fuck
    Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
    Elf Power

    Who else is good there?

It was a great time last night. Best Coast was pretty boring, nothing special. Holy Fuck was awesome, better than I expected. No other real stand outs but I met the bass player for Afghan Wigs. I talked to him for quite awhile. Unfortunately there is no reunion planned. I'm excited about Caribou tonight.

Wow, that was such a great weekend of music. To get the negative things out of the way first, fuck Caribou. They were an hour late which is inexcusable at this festival. Once they actually started playing they were fine but nothing amazing. Fuck them.

Tom Tom Club - Slightly disappointing. Tina is really showing her age. It was a good song selection though. They played their hits and covers of Boardwalk and Take Me To The River.

Caravan of Thieves - These guys are a lot of fun. They're on tour with Tom Tom Club and the main guy who goes by the name Fuzz also played guitar for them. They all have good voices.

The Secret Show turned out to be Spacehog which I missed due to the Caribou fiasco.

There was an army of hipsters at least four blocks long lined up for Surfer Blood. I was shocked. I've never seen anything like that before.

Fang Island - played at same time as Surfer Blood yet hardly anyone was there and they were fucking awesome. I can't stress enough how good they are live. They need to play Coachella next year.

+/- sounded good but it was way too crowded in there so I left.

Elf Power - again, sounded great but I could hardly see the stage.

A Place To Bury Strangers - fucking awesome! The power went out four times which obviously was annoying but they made the best of it and passed a bottle of Jameson around the front of the crowd for us to chug every time it happened. I met them after the show and they're all three really nice guys, especially the drummer.

The best sets I saw all weekend were Holy Fuck, Fang Island and APTBS. This festival is wonderful and it gets better every year.

I created a last.fm event for this year's MPMF, and the artist lineup in a not-so-strain-your-neck kind of way:

    Cut Copy
    The Album Leaf
    Okkervil River
    Mates of State
    Deerhoof
    The Dodos
    Xiu Xiu
    Asobi Seksu
    Kaki King
    Washed Out
    Gang Gang Dance
    Toro y Moi
    Starfucker
    The Joy Formidable
    The Low Anthem
    Viva Voce
    Jessica Lea Mayfield
    Bear Hands
    Those Darlins
    NewVillager
    U.S. Royalty
    Unknown Mortal Orchestra
    Kim Taylor
    Youth Lagoon
    Mansions on the Moon
    The Parson Red Heads
    The Bright Light Social Hour
    Ava Luna
    The Sundresses
    Conspiracy Of Owls
    Tallahassee
    Fort Wilson Riot
    Eat Sugar
    The Giving Tree Band
    ivan and alyosha
    Pop Empire
    Magnolia Mountain
    The Tillers
    Two Headed Dog
    Soapland

I'm pumped about a bunch of these acts... and there's more to come.

First off, cool to find another Midpointer around here... and secondly, don't feel too bad about missing Spacehob/Surfer Blood. Both were OK, but not worth fretting over too badly. There was a bit of drama before the SB show indeed, too many people trying to get in, and the band shooing everyone away during their soundcheck rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

You saw the cream of the crop stuff with HF and ABTBS... Did you happen to catch Koala Fires or Shonen Knife? those were also highlights for me.

Thursday looking forward to The Joy Formidable and Jessica Lea Mayfield. Friday going to check out Ganga Gang Dance. Saturday I will probably just stay at the Grammers Deweys Pizza venue and catch Midnight Magic, Washed Out, and Cut Copy. Need to do some more research on bands performing Saturday. Who are you excited about? Do you have any recommendations for early evening on saturday to maybe point me in the right direcion?

Hard to believe this starts tomorrow, looking forward to the Joy Formidable again as well as Suckers, Kaki King, the Dodos, Yawn and the Moaners. Friday and Saturday are even more jam-packed. The best weekend to be local is finally here!

Hey man, sorry that I didn't see this until now. Well other than the trifecta from 7-10:30 you have posted, on Saturday you might want to check out:

Wolf Ram Heart - 10:30 PM
My Gold Mask - 11:00 PM
    Nerves Junior - 11:30 PM
Man or Astroman? - 12:00 AM
    NewVillager - 12:30 AM

    Thanks, man.

I got that picture too, but iPhonely:

I'm hoping for a longer set when I see them as headliners in a few weeks, but when they're opening for Boris in the near future I would expect something like this.

The Jesus and Mary Chain cover was "Never Understand". Delicious!
