Finally gave the new album a listen and it's really good. I like but don't love a lot of what I've heard of their classic material (sometimes the vocals just grate, and I just need more time with some of it), but this is getting me excited about a potential Coachella set. It really does sound like classic OMD in some spots, and others there's more of a modern r&b influence that actually kind of works. "Pulse" is the motherfucking jam.

I just listened to Dazzle Ships again a few months ago and I haven't been able to take it from the playlist. These guys were so "out there" when they pioneered the synth sound. In a recent interview, Vince Clarke said that OMD are the reason he began playing synthesizers.

Patrick, have you tried Architecture & Morality? Almost every song on it is brilliant. To me it's the easiest album to get into.

Dazzle Ships & Junk Culture are excellent also.

I think that either of PSB or Erasure would be a poor substitute for OMD anyways, but the good news is an announcement for a spring OMD US tour is to be made on Monday. I can still catch them in a small venue, which will be very nice.
