oh, the irony of my making this thread. just listened to this and it's pretty damn good. it pretty much picks up where 23 left off, so if you hated that one you may not like this. but, what the new release means - and what is most important to the fans who haven't just recently jumped on this bandwagon, ehem - is that they are touring!

I dug 23, so will check this out. Shame they aren't playing Calgary (typical) but I might go to Vancouver to see them. They were really really good at Coachella '07.

I'm listening to it at the moment. So far I'm not crazy about it (not a surprise -- 23 is not exactly my favorite BR album). 'Not Getting There' is the highlight for me with 3 more tracks left to go.

yeah, i think that will be the first single. the interesting thing is that it sounds totally different than when it was first leaked in April:


and, even the Soundcloud track posted on the CoS post about it on the 13th is the old version. makes me kinda onder if this leak is legit or not.

I didn't like 23 much at first but it grew on me and I'd give it at least a 7.7 by now, maybe lower 8's. Ok just puked, but seriously, I'm hoping this album is like that too, haven't listened to it yet but it seems like a grower from the three songs I've heard.

I like the article and I like the way they describe the album, which I have yet to hear.

I guess I can't really say why I think these past two releases are awful. They don't have the same hook or ballad that Misery and Melody had. Those albums are pieces of art as a whole, yet they still have a few songs that stand out and push the apparent concept forward. I feel like there are no stand-out songs on these past two albums, like I am just listening to them, get bored and lose attention, and then all of a sudden it's over.

I also don't like that they are taking a turn for the less drum/rhythm oriented stuff, and moving more towards a synth-y kind of sound.

I guess I just mean "awful" compared to the ridiculously high standard I have for this band's past work, and that probably makes me an asshole. =/

I'd say melody and misery have the best standouts but 23 and penny sparkle work better taken as a whole.

I'm pretty sure Melody and Misery will always be my favorites. The only album I've heard earlier than Melody was the self-titled, which is good too but sounds nothing like the band you hear today.

I don't really get the 23 comparisons. I liked 23 just fine. Penny Sparkle is boring all by itself, it doesn't need a companion piece.

I don't care for 23 very much. I wouldn't say I hate it, but it was my least favorite BR album until now. I've already been pretty clear in the past that my loyalty is mostly based on Fake Can Be Just As Good & In Expression of the Inexpressible. (As probably my #1 & #2 favs, though the order changes sometimes). Then Melody, then La Mia Vita Violenta, then BR self-titled, then 23 then this... blegh.
