I've never seen Tool, but I have a tough time believing a rock show can surpass NIN's lights in the sky performance.
I dont get it. You say you want it to be more about the music, yet you want Maynard to be up front in wigs and costumes telling jokes. The way I see it, his move to the back takes the spotlight off of him. Making it more about the music and less about people saying "OMG he's wearing a dress and his face is blue....MMMMAAAAAYYYYYNNNNAAAARRRRDDD!!!WOOOOOOOOO OO!!!!"
Epic Danny Carey improv at the beginning.
This is the fucking jam, and maybe my favorite part of LiTS.
Im sorry but its just boring especially since the last time I saw them in 2009 they just played the same 9 songs the whole tour. A Perfect Circle was great when I saw them last year at least he didnt stay back the whole time.I get the whole Anti Front Man thing lets do this as a collective but most of Tool's fans understand that. I know that the other guys in Tool are amazing musicians. I go to see the whole experience and since i have seen them many times since 1993 I enjoy the theatrics. The first time I saw them was for Undertow and up until about 2000 they always blew me away then the standing in the back got old and boring it took away from the music for me. Trent Reznor on the other hand of the 23 NIN shows I have seen since 1991 even the worst one was better than watching the Amercian Version of the Pink Floyd light show that Tool has put on the last couple of shows. No matter what you still have the douche yelling out "Maynard" the whole time so that is irrelevant to each is his or her own. I am fans of both bands and have met both of them but right now I would choose NIN in a heartbeat based on my live experiences with them in the past 2 or 3 years.

You make it sound as though NIN isn't dark and twisted. Also, agreeing with amyzzz only nullifies your opinion.
yea good point and it wasn't my intent to say he's not. NIN is less dark & twisted? well for example Only from [With_Teeth] is more angry, than dark and twisted, with a pretty upbeat tempo. i feel NIN has more of "those type" of songs than Tool.
does that make a little more sense? sorry i'm really not explaining myself the best in this thread, it's been a long day.

You can only lose when critiquing Tool with a Tool fan.
I think NIN is more accessible in a beat-driven sense. You're not going to get any polyrhythm time signatures from Trent, which is why I think girls prefer it to Tool. However, off the top of my head, I can't recall any of Trent's lyrics to be necessarily inspiring or uplifting, whereas Maynard has quite a few.

I really wish I saw NIN during the LiTS tour...
Wish I saw them on TDWS w/ Manson, but I would've been about 8 then. I don't think my mom would have approved.
