Didn't want to steal the thunder from Bryan and Andrew's label, but I think it's been just long enough...

ANYWAY, for the past four months or so, my boyfriend/partner-in-crime Chris and I have been working nonstop on our cassette label and I am proud to announce that we have our first release up for sale on the site!

Our first release is by a Philadelphia artist named Brendan Welsh and it's pretty amazing. If you like No Age, A Place to Bury Strangers, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3 et al, you will LOVE this tape! (Check out the first track streaming on our blog.) We only made 50 copies, and at $7 (that's $5+$2 shipping) it's a pretty slamming deal. Also, did I mention it looks AMAZING?!

I asked the same question in the noise thread months ago and got this response from Jared:

"for some people they like to have everything be analog from end to end... but that isn't everyone. for others, they like the process of dubbing. also the aesthetic value of a cassette, the hiss and the fact that it slowly degrades over time in tandem with the music. others just think it's cool."

I'm sure Bryan and Andrew could also give their opinions, but I doubt they'll be in this thread much.

Whether or not you like the concept of a cassette label, it still isn't cool to purposefully trash something someone has worked a long time on simply because you don't like their "internet persona." Just saying.

These attitudes aren't that bad, Kat. I'm respectfully suggesting now, for the sake of your label and without any mocking half-smile, that you go on about your business instead of engaging in a way that might potentially derail your thread into something that jeopardizes the impact of what you're trying to do here. It happens in every thread, and this seems like one that could benefit from avoidance. Earnest advice.

I don't know anything about your internet persona but it's 2010 and releasing stuff on cassette is odd, to say the least. I'd be hard pressed to support a label, regardless of their good intentions if I have to scramble to find some way of playing the music.

Agreed. But if it's just a fun little project and she doesn't have delusions of becoming the next Sub Pop or anything, and she provides free mp3s along with her cassettes as she said she is doing, there's probably enough of a niche market to sustain it on a minimal level.

Kat, thanks for not taking me the wrong way - I hope your endeavor is successful, I just think it's peculiar and know that I personally, as a consumer, wouldn't be interested in your product.

As an aside, tangentially touching on Hannah's point, you need to stop acting surprised or offended when people on here don't support your endeavors. Kat, your posts, or at least the lion's share of the ones I've read, are typically very annoying. You seem to wrap yourself up in these hipster ideals which, even if you are 100% genuine, you, like most hipsters, never seem to be able to really support or justify.

You self-promote. You have a thread to promote your radio show and now one for your cassette label. It's annoying when other people (including myself) do it and it's annoying when you do it. The annoyingness is magnified when you consider the fact that all of these self-promoting threads reinforce this vapid hipster persona that's been created around you. Case in point - you have a radio show where you intentionally play vinyl over the radio for the sake of playing vinyl even though it's going to sound the same over the radio in whatever format. Now you're starting a music label and it's selling cassettes, the most worthless and annoying footnote in the history of music media. It's as though you have no self awareness or, if you do, you have zero awareness of your audience (at least on this board for a sizeable portion of board members).

I don't know why people don't take you seriously. It's probably because you're a small cute girl and people are just narrow minded. But please, for the sake of all of us, realize that while it's fine for you to post anything you want at any time and I would in fact be sad if you didn't do just that, people are going to root against you and think you are totally annoying.
