no. that's mistaken.

The Clash's first album came out in the UK in 1977, but didn't come out in the US until 1979 and was largely ignored. "Give 'Em Enough Rope" was released in 1978 and also went nowhere. "London Calling" was released in January 1980 and gave the Clash their first hit. "Sandinista!" and "Combat Rock" also came out in the 80s.

Meanwhile, the Talking Heads 1st album came out in 1977, and their second in 1978: "More Songs About Buildings and Food" had a top 10 hit with "Take Me to the River". Their 3rd album, "Fear of Music" came out in 1979 and also had an AOR hit with "Life During Wartime".

Therefore I conclude that, in terms of US impact at least, Talking Heads were more of a "70s band" than the Clash were.

this was hard. i voted for the clash. thats the band i like the most now. i listen to the clash all the time now. during the time period, i liked rem, husker du, and talking heads. the worst ones by far are guns n roses and acdc. im so embarassed to admit i have never seen any of the above bands.
