heard soundgarden is possible
When does this line up come out?
I looked on the site and the souvenir tickets and early bird tickets are already sold out.
The headliner rumors I was reading on other boards were Soundgarden, Green Day and the Flaming Lips.
I would hope ACL wouldn't book those headliners.
Thankfully it's all super rumor stages.
The rumors of DMB, Pearl Jam, and Beastie Boys proved to be true last year. The beauty of ACL is the aftershows. If I don't care about a headliner, I just get a ticket for an aftershow and skip out of the festival early.
Honestly, I want to go this year just to see Austin. Bay Area isn't quite what we are looking for and the wife and I find Austin quite attractive (Cheap with TONS of live music, good food and warm weather).
Please come, Marco. Andy and I will be there.![]()
Honestly if I went, it would be mainly to see the city too!
How hard is it to get around Austin?
So they don't have a shuttle you can buy or something?
I would either stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Austin or the Double Tree Hotel - Austin University Area.
Are those those reasonably close?
There is a free shuttle.
The free shuttle is at Republic Square! There is no parking at Zilker Park for the ACL Festival, so take the free shuttle instead - a short hop to the park! Board at Republic Square at the corner of 4th and Guadalupe streets, and you'll be dropped off at the Festival entrance on Barton Springs Road. When you're finished rocking, hop back on for a return trip. The shuttles begin at Republic Square at 10 am and make their final return from the park at 11 pm, Friday-Sunday.
The Hilton will be your better bet, as far as proximity goes. It's roughly 10 blocks away from the shuttle.
the bus system is usually good. i haven't tried it during the festival weekend though but from what i've heard it does the work at least taking you to downtown. there are free shuttles there running all day to/from the festival. you might want to leave the park 30 min before the headliner ends though, unless you don't mind waiting ~1hr in line for the shuttle back to downtown.
cabs are usually cheap too, but again, you would have to leave the festival early to avoid traffic. i always bike and can't recommend it enough.
I love Austin but I've been there so much that it doesn't feel like anything special to me anymore. (My wife's from Austin and her parents still live there; I used to have monthly business trips there; etc.). But yeah Austin's got a great music scene and great food, what more do you need?
I have walked between the festival grounds and Sixth Street several times.
If you are used to walking and don't mind walking along some stretches where most people are driving, then you don' teven need public transport. Especially that weekend since traffic is especially bad.
Hunting has been part of our society since the first Europeans came over and shot buffalo and Native Americans and whatnot.

Or take advantage of the bike rickshaws.
Also, if you are trying to make it to an aftershow, you will need to leave before the headliners are done playing. This also has the advantage of avoiding traffic.

i loooveeee Austin, been to SXSW last month, my first ever visit to Austin, amazing city. loved it.
Bump.
MGMT is playing in the UK during ACL weekend which just made my fucking day.
Hope to see some of you make the trek this year. I talked to a few of you about it and am very serious that I'd like to see some of this board make it out.
muse are playing in oklahoma on friday during acl weekend, and no dates in texas so far. i don't want to think they'll be the sunday headliner.
those tickets went fast this morning.
I lucked out and got 2 of the $165 passes. A friend was stuck with the $185 passes not 2 minutes later. :-/
