    Craig Campbell
    Lukas Nelson

are all the guys playing. Needless to say I want to make it to see Jamey Johnson, but you guys know any of the others playing?
Willie: Obviously worth seeing, although he hasn't been as good since having surgery on his hands in late 2005.
Jamey Johnson: As you know, this guy is fucking great.
Randy Houser: Worth checking out, rockish outlaw country.
Lee Brice: Not too familiar, but he's good at spinning weepy ballads. A bit cheesy for my taste.
Craig Campbell: ? No idea who this is
Lukas: Willie's son never impressed me much when I've seen him with Willie, but maybe he's gotten better.

All in all, I'd say this is definitely worth checking out.

Thanks Greg! Jamey and Willie are co-headlining and my whole family has gotten really into the Jamey record so it looks like we'll have all 5 (hopefully 6) of us going. I heard a Craig Campbell song on the radio and it was decent.

OK I heard this song on the radio* this morning and tracked it back to Hayes Carll, who seems to be popping up more and more lately. I like that he sounds current - but maybe a little commercial? Doesn't seem like he's been discussed.

    * Bill DeVille does a nice alt-country show on The Current Sunday mornings at 8 central, called United States of Americana.

I have not yet decided how I feel about Secret Sisters. A friend just introduced me. They are very Tennessee and very sugary sweet. Historically I don't care for that many female vocalists. I'll have to give these ladies some more listens to make a judgment. Apparently T Bone Burnett and Jack White have anointed The Secret Sisters as a duo to watch. That second youtube features Jack White and is undoubtedly bad fucking ass. And the third doing backup for Ray Lamontagne is nice.

My band is doing a two week tour this summer, minus the rhythm section, as the drummer and I are having kids in the next three months, but the other three will be on tour with a great talent, Beth Bombara, who is also from St. Louis. She will be opening for us and also playing with us. Here is video of what you can expect:

So my hyperfangirl Google alert for Gillian Welch's new album turned up a two-disc rarities compilation today that I didn't even know existed. It may very well be someone's personal project and not an actual release, but:

    Disc 1 -
    1. Long Black Veil
    2. Snowin’ On Raton
    3. Pancho & Lefty
    4. Mom And Dad’s Waltz
    5. Leaving Train
    6. Hickory Wind
    7. I’ll Go On Downtown
    8. Ben Dewberry’s Last Ride
    9. Billy
    10. Dusty Boxcar Walls
    11. Albuquerque
    12. White Freightliner Blues
    13. True Life Blues
    14. Company Grave
    15. Bright Morning Stars
    16. Miner’s Prayer
    17. Tennessee Stud
    18. New Dug Grave [Live]
    19. I’ll Fly Away

    Disc 2 -
    1. Hickory Wind [Live]
    2. 455 Rocket
    3. Saginaw Way
    4. Apalachicola Bound
    5. Two Sisters
    6. Wichita
    7. Leaving Train [Live]
    8. Blue Old Girl
    9. Drytown
    10. Single Girl
    11. Pretty Roses
    12. Stood Up At The Altar
    13. That’s The Way Love Goes
    14. Traveling On The Stormy Deep
    15. Summer Evening
    16. Miner’s Refrain [Alternate Version]
    17. New Dug Grave
    18. Beulah Land
    19. Gold Watch And Chain
    20. Katie Dear
    21. Old Ways
    22. Two Days From Knowing
    23. Patiently Waiting
    24. Go To Sleep My Little Baby

If you copy that list into Google it takes you to the site where I found it. I haven't listened yet, so I can't speak for quality/legitimacy, though the few songs on there I already know, I love.

Well the sky's turned pink on the eastern edges
    Night is cold and still
I don't know if it's the sunrise warming the desert
Or the lights of Tucson from over the hill

Well it's a hard way to love you this long distance romance
All the stopping and starting again
Well I don't mind the miles when I'm out on the highway
Even when I'm with you the miles just don't end

And I'm two days from knowing
    Whether I can be strong
If I spend one more night in your arms
Got a mind to keep going
And drive right past your door
But I'm two days from knowing for sure

As the night closes down it fills the horizon
And stretches it out at the seams
I don't know if tomorrow I'll be any closer
To closing the distance between you and me

But I'm two days from knowing
    Whether I can be strong
If I spend one more night in your arms
Got a mind to keep going
And drive right past your door
But I'm two days from knowing for sure
Got a mind to keep going
And drive right past your door
But I'm two days from knowing for sure

The tags are all fucked up - I fixed them and am uploading to Mediafire in three parts (clocks in at 2:38). Hopefully the new tags will translate. ~2 minutes left on my upload, and then I'll have the links for anyone who wants them.

While you're at it, the song that the blog calls "Company Grave" is actually "Graveyard Blues".

From a mostly unrelated NPR ASC post. Finally something more credible.

For some, hearing the twang of Gillian Welch was a welcome relief to a long drought. Her June 28 release, The Harrow & The Harvest, is her first in eight years.

So I'm in North Carolina by accident.. see my post in the Travel thread .. and as I get out of the airport shuttle van at the hotel entrance they are playing Ryan Adams. Whitney is he like a local hero here or was it just coincidence? fwiw it was good (early) Adams.
