As of Saturday November 10, 2012, citizens from 15 States have petitioned the Obama Administration for withdrawal from the United States of America in order to create its own government.

States following this action include: Louisiana, Texas, Montana, North Dakota, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Colorado, Oregon and New York. These States have requested that the Obama Administration grant a peaceful withdrawal from the United States.

These citizen generated petitions were filed just days after the 2012 presidential election.

Louisiana was the first State to file a petition a day after the election by a Michael E. from Slidell, Louisiana. Texas was the next State to follow by a Micah H. from Arlington, Texas.

The government allows one month from the day the petition is submitted to obtain 25,000 signatures in order for the Obama administration to consider the request.

The Texas petition reads as follows:

The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.

As of 12:46 am, Sunday, signatures obtained by Louisiana, 7,358; Texas, 3,771; Florida, 636; Georgia, 475; Alabama, 834; North Carolina, 792; Kentucky, 467; Mississippi, 475; Indiana, 449; North Dakota, 162; Montana, 440; Colorado, 324; Oregon, 328; New Jersey, 301 and New York, 169. Many more States are expected to follow.

A petition is not searchable at whitehouse.gov until 150 signatures have been obtained. It is the originator's responsibility to obtain these signatures.

Except that was a series of bold predictions, state by state by state, all of which were wrong. And they were wrong not because he went out on a limb and predicted something daring -- they were wrong because the facts were right there in front of him and instead he bent it to fit his own agenda. And he was completely, totally, irrefutably dead wrong on every single one.

As long as the Republicans continue to issue baldfaced denials of incontrovertible facts, they will not govern. It is a failed strategy -- they have now lost 4 of the last 6 presidential elections and 5 of the last 6 popular votes -- and the sooner they extract their collective crania from their various recta the better it will be for their chances. And, I agree with Rachel Madow -- the better it will be for the country as a whole. Democrats have their own brand of bullshit that needs to be challenged by good intellectual debate. But reason has not been the byword of the Republican party in the last 15 years or so. If conservatism is supposed to be such a great governing philosophy then why do they think they need to make shit up to make it fly?

The fed shouldn't keep any of those states from seceding this time. Fuck this. We are, after all, a Republic. If the people vote for it, let them have it. I'll be happy to have them out of my electoral college. Well Texas does make a lot of money for starters. They also would obviously pass some sketchy immigration policies that would be a headache. I would also assume the oil drilling regulations would go out the window making them more money and probably fucking up things for surrounding areas. Gun regulations may go out the window as well making crime that much more violent there, which would look bad on us.

Cutting the oil-rich states out of the equation in fact might be one of the only chances we'd get to actually instate a sweeping change over to renewable energy sources. What about their immigration policies would I possibly care about? If Texas wants to build a fence around the whole fucking place, let them. The Mexicans can come to the other states.

so we keep hearing about the republican party needing to change. what changes are they seriously considering? here are my guesses, but i want input from people paying more attention than i am

• abortion - i assume we won't see any changes here, except maybe a larger effort to make this an issue of states' rights.
• birth control - will they drop this issue? i feel like the health care provision to not make companies with religious leadership pay for birth control as a part of insurance and force insurance companies will subsidize the cost was a political compromise. don't they pay for pregnancies? do they check to see if all those pregnancies were a part of wedlock? do they pay for STD medication? will jewish companies not pay for people who get into car accidents on saturdays? considering birth control, like these other examples has both health benefits as well as preventing pregnancy, i don't see how they can avoid paying entirely. i hate the phrase "slippery slope", but it feels like this opens the door to companies prying into our health care decisions.
• immigration - i think we can all see that the republicans now understand they need the latino vote. how will they back off this issue or propose reforms to immigration?
• health care - i thought i heard boehner said he would drop the issue of trying to repeal the affordable care act. is that accurate?
• taxes - are we going to stop hearing about the tax payer protection pledge?
• defense/war - are we going to continue endless war? from a cost perspective, it would make sense to reduce spending in this area, but i doubt that will come from the republicans. are they still going to be staunch supporters of israel?
