Wasnt this started during the Bush era, or was that something else that came out recently?
It was started during the Bush era. It's been offensive and (in my mind) unconstitutional since then, and it doesn't matter which president is using it, it's still a violation of an individual's privacy rights. Show me a warrant or you have no right to be in my business.
And I have nothing to hide in my house. That doesn't mean I want the cops coming in at any point just because I can prove that there's nothing illegal going on. They need to be able to express a clear reason for invading privacy and to be able to back it with some evidence, otherwise they shouldn't be allowed to snoop.
Strangely, I think I would gladly trade almost all my 4th amendment rights if there was an amendment to legalize all intoxicants. That would be an interesting debate.
The really weird dichotomy about it all is that in order to make real progress--changes to the system that would actually undo the fundamental flaws of corruption, the two-party illusion, tabloid politics, etc.--we actually need the powers that be to keep this sort of stuff up. In order to have any chance of actually correcting an institution which possesses such systemic problems that are so deeply intertwined with the media, corporate, military and religious facets of the nation, it's pointless to hope that things could improve by working within the structure. We have past the point of the American renaissance and our only hope now is a massive, angry, sweeping rejection of everything they do.
The problem is people will never step up and take those kinds of measures unless they are truly provoked to the point that they're willing to put their lives on the line. The only way to save America is we have to hope that the establishments aren't smart enough to restrain their abuse of power. We need way more invasion of privacy and mistreatment of citizens, preferably combined with multiple massive terror events to whip the people into the kind of rage needed to mount a coup.
I wonder if somewhere in the administration, there's one guy who's trying to push through more and more stuff that would freak the revolutionaries out, secretly doing what he believes to be the only way he can save his beloved country... by making it horrible enough to finally force the people to euthanize it.
I agree with Randy. Hopefully things will get so bad that things might actually get better.
What's wrong with Muslim food?
The only binding thread with Muslim food is "halal" which essentially means kosher meat and no pork.
