I've been doing a-season-a-month rewatch on HBO On-Demand. Season 1 is definitely showing its age, and you forget how much of it revolves around Lydia (often to the show's detriment), but I'd still argue it is successful on the merits. "College" is the template for all of the antihero shows that have followed in the show's wake; just a perfect hour of TV. And those last two episodes of the season are so incredibly good.

Season One is near perfect, and College is actually one of the best episodes of the whole run. It's the exact proper reveal of the juxtaposition that will drive the whole show--we see Tony kill someone, rather brutally, for the first time, after 55 minutes of being a pretty damn excellent and normal parent.

Season 5 is my clear favorite, with 6B and 1 each just behind. Agree that season 4 is problematic -- a lot of narrative water treading and some failed experiments, though you do get the incredible payoff of Whitecaps. Season 3 also isn't among my favorites, though it has some huge gems: starting off with that misdirection season premiere that focuses on the Feds, University, Pine Barrens.

Struggled to get through the pilot of Hello, Ladies last night. Does it get better? I feel like we've seen this all before. Relocated single person desperately navigating "superficial" LA. And Merchant, while amusing, doesn't seem like he's developed a fully formed character. When he was Ricky Gervais' sidekick on Extras he was wonderful, but basing an entire show around his comic persona is a bit tiring.

Ready to cut the satellite cord and move on to streaming. Looking at the Roku 3 and then subscribing to hulu plus and netflix. That sound like a legit plan? Anyone else live like that? Also, how fast of an internet connection is recommended to have buffer free streaming? We just kept what this house had when we moved in and think we are on the lower end of the spectrum, via Time Warner cable.

edit: just did a speedtest and came back with 3.19mbps

I have streaming at my house to 3 different tvs...
atv2, roku2, and a Samsung tv plus the tablets and comps that hog the net and i am saving hundreds a month by being signed up to netflix, prime, "magically" found tv programs thru my own DLNA and of course watching sports thru "magical" streaming sites...going this route will make you loose the luxury of watching live sports

Currently on blast Internet plan (about 20-30Mbps) thru comcast that you get for about 20 bucks a month for the first year...

My dad worked in cable his entire adult life, so I have a somewhat irrational sense of loyalty to cable subscription. But even apart from that, at this point I couldn't bring myself to cut the cord because something like 80% of what I watch is live news or sports, or is something on HBO or Turner Classic Movies.

my boyfriend was watching it when HBO had a saturday marathon and I didn't think it was very good at first, but after a couple more episodes it did get better and now I can't wait until season 2 (if it gets picked up).

I have a couple samsung tvs and bluray players that connect me to all the major content providers for each of my TVs and I use DLNA for all of my acquired content but I have to hook up an hdmi cable to my ultrabook to stream sports since my TVs are 2013 models.

I haven't cut the cord though. I still have FiOS for live TV and events/sports.

Steve, You'd probably want to try and get a faster internet plan, especially if you want to stream to more than 1 device. for best performance you'd want to have a cable run to each device, but you can stream from most of the major sites in HD over wireless.

Don't really watch sports and if I do it's usually just the stuff on network tv, so an antenna will do that. Only one tv we use and thinking about it our sony bluray player does Netflix and I assume hulu plus, as well. Also just got an xbox 360 for the kids, but don't plan on keeping the xbox gold trial going past the 30 days, which I've read is required to use the streaming services.

The gold service is still significantly cheaper if you want to use the streaming stuff. Only $50 per year.

We started watching The Americans after seeing the hype in this thread. Five episodes in and we're digging it.

Anyone know why the episodes vary in length so much? Some are 39 minutes, others 49, 42, 45. Isn't that a network show with standard running time?

When it aired some episodes were an hour and fifteen minutes, some were an hour.

Huh, had no idea they aired 75-minute episodes. Thanks for the info. I liked the Soviet code theory better, though, haha.

I don't think I'd put Walking Dead in the 3 worst series of the year. I feel like people giving that show a hard time have no idea what kind of show it's supposed to be. I've enjoyed season 3 a lot more than I did season 2. meh.

I've just started watching Park and Recreation again. I watched the first season but then got a new DVR and never set it to record again. I'm sure I'll enjoy it once I get caught up since I love Amy Pohler. I need to finish up Arrested Development. I've only made it half way through the netflix season and found it disappointing compared to previous seasons.

I enjoyed the finale of 30 Rock, but I felt like the series ran a little bit too long. Once Upon a Time has its ups and downs, but I keep on watching it because I enjoy most of the story line. I'm curious to see how season 4 is going to play out with the memories and being back in the enchanted forest.

I finally gave up waiting for The Americans to be available for legal streaming and grabbed the first season from usenet, so that's on my watch list so that I can get caught up for season 2 in feb.

and I can't wait for Girls to come back. love that show!

How I Met Your Mother would be #10 then...
Shouldn't your schedule, that you shared with everyone here even though we never asked, tell you this? I mean the schedule is there for a reason right?

Also How I Met Your Mother has been terrible this year, horrible season to end with. Only reason I'm still even watching it because I would be pissed off with myself if I stopped watching it now after all this time.
