I feel like the bad acting was almost directed to be such. It feels like a horror pastiche of 24, which necessarily means awful awful acting.

So supposedly this season is supposed to be more like the weird version of the Bridge and not a shitty serial killer procedural. The beginning so far is somewhat promising from the 1.5 episodes that I have watched.
Thanks for the background, VG. That's hilarious that one of the show runners went back to Homeland. As The Bridge's serial killer plot continued to strain credulity, I kept thinking it was getting even worse than Homeland. I'll probably give s2 a shot when/if it pops up on Hulu.

For fans of dark comedy - and I do mean dark - check out the British sitcom Nighty Night on Hulu. It's about this sociopathic woman who uses her husband's cancer diagnosis to manipulate people, including her wheelchair-bound next door neighbor whose husband she wants to seduce.

Had no idea Wilfred S4 had already started - seems like FX has done a shitty job promoting it (and switched it to FXX, hence my DVR no longer picking it up automatically). Consider this night toast now that I've realized that this is already available on demand.

Other people like this show or just me? Never actually met someone else who enjoyed it...gotta love anything weird (a la Bridge S1 before 2nd half).

I liked the first season of Wilfred but didn't make it through the second season.

The show went off the rails end of last season trying to tease the edge of Ryan's sanity (in a far less subtle way than 2nd season) and then seemingly got lost and doesn't have any idea where it's going. Haven't seen this season so far though.

Just watched first 5 episodes - it's bonkers, but not really in a good way. This show tests the limit of what I'm willing to sit through for the occasional perfect, dumb joke (a la the Rutger Hauer appearance in E4 of S4). Either way, have to stick through to the end now...but kind of want to wait until the next 5 are aired, because Wilfred in short bursts is probably too weird at this point.

I have always been hoping that its just a really cruel joke the whole world is playing on Ryan. (like, everyone else knows its a dude in a costume and they're just fucking with him.)

I've been on an emotional roller-coaster all week watching season 5 of Sons of Anarchy this week.
I need to buzz through season 6 before the final season starts in september.

At a meeting today, a colleague was saying that his wife, who is British, installed something on their computer that allows them to gain access to British video websites which are geo-restricted to UK residents. You know, things like the BBC iPlayer, the British Netflix etc. Any tech savvy folks know what he was talking about? Is there some kind of application that can allow your computer to "trick" British websites into thinking you're connecting from the UK?

Honorable Woman will probably end up being the best TV show this year. A riveting Middle East spy thriller with Maggie Gyllenhall and Stephen Rea. Great stuff.

It's by the same people who did The Boondocks, so it'll probably be decent. I've only seen the one trailer so far though.

Anyone caught Steven Soderbergh's The Knick on Cinemax? Heard very good things about it. Interesting that it ended up on Cinemax and not HBO. I don't have cable, but the pilot is up on YouTube and HBOGo. If HBOGo continues to post eps, I'm definitely checking it out.

BTW, I know I'm way late on this one, but I unabashedly love Orange is the New Black. I binge-watched the first 4 eps this weekend. I couldn't stand Weeds, so assumed this show, by the same creator/EP, wasn't for me, but it is a surprisingly affecting and, frequently, very funny show. I don't usually go for the "quirky" dramedy thing. It looked like the kind of show that post-menopausal women enjoy on USA and TNT. These "dramedies" usually feel neither here nor there to me, but I'm impressed with the show's ability to play with convention in a really smart and entertaining way. And what a wonderful ensemble cast of actresses who probably rarely get to exercise their comedic and dramatic muscles with such strong material. The only weak link, in my eyes, is the stilted performance of Laura Prepon. I don't understand how that woman gets work.

I'm curious about The Knick, too.

    And Welcome to Sweden.

Recently binge-watched Review with Forrest MacNeil. It's the guy who played the principal on Eastbound and Down and he reviews life experiences. Like having a drug problem, eating too many pancakes, etc. I thought it might get old after a couple episodes but it built on itself well and was really funny.

The Knick pilot was...ok. But then again, as much as I've enjoyed Soderbergh's films I haven't really seen why people go nuts about the guy either.

Was interesting watching that first surgery since that is what my wife had with our first child. Glad we were not around then trying to have the babies, yikes, so archaic.

I know I'm forever late but I just started watching Orphan Black and I'm really happy with it. I'm three episodes in and fighting myself to keep from watching the next one right after. Tatiana Maslanay is fantastic as Sarah, etc., really inhabiting distinct characters.

i watched the knick pilot on HBOGO last night. i enjoyed it. but i find that era of medicine fascinating. no one even talks to the fucking patient and there's just a room of people at the ready to witness surgery. will have to see more to see how it goes, i felt the whole race thing was kind of weak.

Has anyone been watching Masters of Sex? I thought the first season was really excellent. The third episode of this season was insanely good, but aside from that this second season has been kind of a mess.

I agree that the 3rd episode has been the best so far (my favorite episode of TV this year) but I've been thouroughly enjoying this whole season.

The Strain is finally getting better but is still laced with a ton of cheese and frustrating characters. Under the Dome is pure cheese and doesn't even pretend to be anything else so I tend to enjoy it whereas I am usually yelling at my TV during The Strain.

I am one episode behind on The Leftovers but really love it and already can't wait for S2.

It's almost fall TV season, gotta get my spreadsheets ready :-P What new shows will ya'll be watching?
