also, the conversation with hannah and her mom after putting her dad to bed felt like a conversation with my mom sort of, and i'm sure you all know what i mean since you know my mom.
Does Girls get better? The first episode felt very rich-white-girl-problems. Veep is hilarious, though. Love the supporting cast. Just realized the actress who plays Selena's chief of staff was the star of My Girl.
I love Veep so much. I wasn't sure how well Iannuci's tone would translate to something starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but the show is just gloriously bitter. The VIP for me is probably Matt Walsh, whose every line is drop-dead funny. Anyway, probably my favorite show right now.
Girls gets much, much worse as time goes on. It began as an interesting, honest and thoughtful character study and has quickly devolved into a middling sitcom.
The male characters are terribly drawn. I thought all the Sex in the City talk was just bluster, but that really seems to be what she's going for.
The male characters seem idiotic, insecure, immature, self-absorbed, etc., because just like the female characters in their 20's, some males are like that in their 20's, obviously not all. The James LeGros character seems like he has a better grasp on life, since he's older, but of course he has his flaws, which is one the points of the show, no?
They're idiotic insecure and self-absorbed at a comical level. They're not fully realized characters, which the women do seem to be. To me. How stupid was that "concert" where the diary got read? Nobody would watch that. Zero people.
Yes, i agree it was silly. And, maybe some of the male characters aren't fully realized because it is written solely, for the most part, by the lead character who is also in her 20's, and may also contribute to some of that silliness. It's far from perfect, however i still enjoy the show.

So I decided to dive into Boardwalk Empire last night and I just spent the past six hours straight watching the first half of season one.
What a fantastic show
This has been a good year of catch-up for me. Watched all of Fringe, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad for the first time and now I am diving into 30 Rock.

Have to say, that 30 Rock season finale was great. If only the rest of the season had been so sharp. It's probably for the best that they're bowing out after next season.
I have just watched just about all 4 seasons of Sons of Anarchy this last weekend. Unf.
Definitely a must watch series.

January thru April 29th - The worst time of the year here.
I think Girls is pretty great. I've watched all 8 episodes and wait anxiously for it on Sunday nights.
I also am generally liking anything on tv since most shows are over for the summer and im on break.
I desperately wanted this show to be good. Series 1 of Thick of It was incredible, once they got rid of Hugh the show was a let down. I suppose there was almost no hope that VEEP could be better than either but it's getting annoying. The rhythm of the show is way more forced. Each line seems shoehorned in. I know "POTUS" is a real term that some folks use, but it's pretty blatant that Iannuci is overusing it to create the faceless, dehumanized "PM" equivalent. We get it already. And for FUCKS SAKE why does every American adaptation of a British show have to have the love interest rammed down our throats?
I'm not the only one watching the new reality series Push Girls on the Sundance channel, am I?

[VEEP SPOILER AHEAD]:
I dunno, I think I actually prefer Veep to Thick of It - and I almost always prefer the Brit originals. Loved In the Loop, though. Veep is definitely... shinier, punchier and even slightly more sitcomy than Thick of It, but it's surprisingly dark beneath that veneer. That last ep in which Selena made her chief of staff take the fall for the pregnancy story? Yikes.
It makes me irrationally angry when I watch reality television show contestants freak out about having to "act." The logical loophole of it drives me fucking nuts.

Just watched the first "episode" of Sherlock and really dug it. The fact that I stuck with it though the end says it all as I can sometimes have serious ADD especially with netflix. So many options!
Also, "Jem and The Holograms" is fucking terrific
